Let's talk Disney Live Action Movies.  I know, I know.  When you think Disney, you think Princess Movies or Cinderella Movies or even a specific Disney era (I do love my 90s kid Disney films).  But I'm going to argue that we often overlook the AMAZING Disney Live Action Movies that have come from Walt Disney Studios over the years.  When I started looking through the entire list of live action films they've made over the years, I realized how many GREAT movies I'd forgotten about.  In fact, it was REALLY hard to narrow this watchlist down to 50 films.  But, I wanted something reasonable to work though….so here you have it.  My picks for the top 50 Disney Live Action Movies.  Our plan is to watch them all this summer!

Top 50 Disney Live Action Movies

Let's get into it……these? Are my picks for the top 50 Disney Live Action Movies.  There are classics, old favorites and some new films too!

  1. Pollyanna: This live action classic is a must rewatch if you haven't seen it in a while.  Your kids will love seeing Hayley Mills in a different role and it's a fun glimpse into life in the late 1950s. (available on Disney+)
  2. Swiss Family Robinson: Got an adventure loving kid? If you've visited the Swiss Family Treehouse at the Magic Kingdom then this is a MUST watch.  Who doesn't love a family adventure story and the idea of LIVING IN A TREEHOUSE??? (available on Disney+)
  3. The Parent Trap: Yes there are two versions of this film (the original and the 1998 remake with Lindsay Lohan).  We watched both, and it was really fun to compare! This twin swapping story is still as good as it was when we were kids and Lydia loved it! (available on Disney+)
  4. Mary Poppins: This Disney Live Action Movie is practically perfect in every way.  It's entertaining for younger kids, has a great plot for older kids, and it's a TOTAL classic. (available on Disney+)
  5. The Love Bug: If you've got a car loving kiddo, The Love Bug is a highly underrated Disney Live Action Film and it's a must watch.  The 1969 original is really fun, and tells the story of Herbie….a car with a mind of his own.  (available on Disney+)
  6. Bedknobs and Broomsticks: Another HIGHLY underrated film, Bedknobs and Broomsticks is a favorite in our house.  It tells the story of an apprentice witch, a family of children and their adventures.  It's a must watch for younger kids! (available on Disney+)
  7. Escape to Witch Mountain: We watched this one recently, it's the story of an orphaned brother and sister with, some remarkable abilities.  A fun one! (available on Disney+)
  8. Freaky Friday: Original or One of the Remakes…..you choose! I'm partial to the original of this body swapping story.  But for bonus points? Watch both versions and compare! (available on Disney+)
  9. Pete's Dragon (original or remake): Fun fact, the Pete's Dragon remake was the first movie Lydia saw in a movie theatre.  The remake is great, but I highly suggest watching the original story that shares the adventures of a boy (Pete) and his invisible dragon. (available on Disney+)
  10. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: If you haven't watched Honey, I Shrunk the Kids in years…..this comedy is a great one! Your kids will love seeing the adventures of the Szalinski kids once they are shrunk to the size of an ant! (available on Disney+)
  11. Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken: Animal lovers, this is a GREAT one!  It's the story of Sonora and her relationship with a very special stunt horse.  (available on Disney+)
  12. The Rocketeer: Superhero fans, put the Rocketeer on your must watch list.  This period hero movie is a TON of fun to rewatch! (available on Disney+)
  13. Newsies: I LOVE THIS MUSICAL! Who doesn't love a young Christian Bale? This is the story of the newsboys strike in New York in 1899. (available on Disney+)
  14. The Mighty Ducks: Love a feel good sports movie? Then this is for you! Emilio Estevez is a not so happy attorney who ends up coaching a boys' hockey team! (available on Disney+)
  15. Hocus Pocus: A list of the best Disney Live Action Movies wouldn't be complete without this GEM (you know they're working on a sequel right??). This glorious story of 3 witches is a TOTAL classic! (available on Disney+)
  16. Cool Runnings: Potentially my favorite sports movie of all time.  This is based on the true story of the Jamaican Bobsled Olympic Team and is so much fun to watch! (available on Disney+)
  17. The Jungle Book: The live action version of this is really fun for kids to compare to the original animated version! (available on Disney+)
  18. Flubber: Anything with Robin Williams is bound to be GREAT, and Flubber is no exception.  This silly story is about an absent minded professor and his latest invention.  (available on Disney+)
  19. Remember the Titans: Based on a true story, Remember the Titans shares the journey of the integration of a high school football team, their coach, and so much more.  (available on Disney+)
  20. Princess Diaries: A CLASSIC.  The first film tells the story of a young girl who discovers she is in fact…..the Princess of Genovia.  TRUST ME, watch this (And the sequel). (available on Disney+)
  21. Tuck Everlasting: We just rewatched this and I forgot how much I loved it!  Tuck Everlasting shares the love story between a young girl and a boy from a family of immortals. (available on Disney+)
  22. Holes: I wouldn't be a teacher if I didn't say READ THE BOOK FIRST!  This is an adventure story about a VERY weird camp, and a group of boys who beat the odds. (available on Disney+)
  23. The Lizzie McGuire Movie: If you've got a kid who LOVES teen coming of age stories, high school dramas, teen pop….then this is a MUST watch. (available on Disney+)
  24. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: Another read the book first for me.  I love love love this novel (the whole series) and the movie is JUST as good! Bonus if you follow up with the next movie as well. (available on Disney+)
  25. Bridge to Terabithia: Warning this one will make you cry.  This sweet and sad coming of age story is one for the ages. (available to rent or purchase on Amazon Prime)
  26. Enchanted: Love princess movies? Then if you haven't watched Enchanted….it's THE BEST.  This live action princess in the real world story is so much fun! (available to rent or purchase on Amazon Prime)
  27. High School Musical : If you follow us on IG then you know that Lydia JUST got into the High School Musical franchise. Highly recommend all three movies! (available on Disney+)
  28. Hannah Montana: The Movie: This adorable tween / teen drama based on the Disney Channel series is really fun for pop loving kiddos! (available on Disney+_)
  29. Alice in Wonderland : No one does dark, moody and stunning like Tim Burton.  He created TWO live action Alice movies, and they're STUNNING! (available on Disney+)
  30. Saving Mr. Banks: This may be a little more grown up-ish……but it's a WONDERFUL story that shares the journey of the 20 year process of turning the Mary Poppins book into the film we all love. (available on Disney+)
  31. Maleficent : Potentially the most amazing villain of all time.  Both Maleficent live action films are FABULOUS, filled with stunning visuals and fun point of view into her story! (both films available on Disney +)
  32. Into the Woods: THE BEST.  If you love fairy tales (or your kids do)…..this film version of the musical is AMAZING and worth a watch (available on Disney+)
  33. Cinderella: SO MANY OPTIONS.  There are a few Cinderella live action movies …..(I'm partial to the version with Brandi and Whitney Houston)……my suggestion? Take a couple days and watch them all!
  34. The BFG : We just rewatched this gem recently. Another read the book first suggestion, I love this story about a little girl and her adventures with….a Big Friendly Giant. (available on Disney+)
  35. Beauty and the Beast: This is one of Lydia's favorite Disney Live Action Movies.  If you love princess movies, it's a MUST watch.  I love the feminist take on Belle, and the songs are…..FABULOUS. (available on Disney+)
  36. Pirates of the Caribbean (all 4): Love a good adventure story? The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is AMAZINGLY well done and perfect for a non-princess Disney Live Action Movie. (available on Disney+)
  37. A Wrinkle in Time: Yes, another read the book first plug.  This is a perfect live action option for slightly older kids (I'd say age 7 and up)…..they'll love the premise and plot and get REALLY into it! Who doesn't love the idea of KIDS saving their parents? (available on Disney+)
  38. Christopher Robin: Winnie the Pooh fans, this is a must watch.  I love the story of an all grown up Christopher Robin. (available on Disney+)
  39. Mary Poppins Returns: If you haven't watched Mary Poppins Returns recently, this needs to go on your must watch Disney Live Actions movies list.  It's STELLAR. (available on Disney+)
  40. Dumbo: I was VERY interested to see this version of Dumbo when it was released, and Lydia and I actually ended up attending the premiere.  It's STUNNING (of course it is, it's a Tim Burton film)  and a ton of fun to watch. (available on Disney+)
  41. Aladdin: This was another Disney Live Action Movie that I was VERY curious to see.  Would it live up to the original? How could ANYONE be as great as Robin Williams? Disney did a beautiful job at creating a NEW version of the film without taking away from the original. And shoutout to Jasmine's bad a$$ feminist vibes.  (available on Disney+)
  42. The Lion King: A STUNNING FILM.  This is a Disney Live Action Movies must watch (again and again).  I love it so much, and highly recommend watching the original and this version back to back! (available on Disney+)
  43. Togo: I'm going to argue that Togo is one of the most underrated Disney Live Action Movies.  In fact, when I first was invited to a roundtable on the Disney Studios lot about the film, I didn't know much.  This inspiring story tells the TRUE journey of an incredibly heroic dog and is 100% a must watch.  (available on Disney+)
  44. The One and Only Ivan: If you're looking for more animal movies, this recent release is ANOTHER amazing option (read the book first).  It shares the story of a very special gorilla and is a ton of fun! (available on Disney+)
  45. Mulan: Another recent release…..this stunning film is definitely a more mature version of the animated classic, but the FIGHT SCENES ALONE are amazing! (available on Disney+)
  46. Godmothered: Did you miss this ADORABLE live action release on Disney+? It's SO SO SO cute, I love this story of the “last godmother” and her journey (and shout out to the inclusiveness of this film).  (available on Disney+)
  47. Safety: Another recent Disney Live Action Movies Release……this is one of the best sports movies made in recent years.  Safety shares the real life story of Ray McElrathbey, a Clemson University football player. (available on Disney+)
  48. Flora and Ulysses: This is one of Lydia's favorite Disney Live Action Movies.  Who doesn't love a movie that combines comics and graphic novels with a real live adventure starring a kid as the hero? (available on Disney+)
  49. Cruella: Disney knocked it out of the park with this recent release.  This stunning and beautifully created film will make you love a villain, and her epic style.  If you love creation stories, it's for you! (available on Disney+)

So, the final question? Which of these Disney Live Action Movies is YOUR favorite?

There are people cheering you on…..and you don’t even realize it.I learned a LOT during the 7 months of training for this race. I learned that I should stretch and warm up (thanks pulled muscle for that life lesson), I learned that small progress over time leads to achieving big goals. I learned that sunshine and being outside makes me a happier person. I learned that I’m more of an athlete than I thought I was. But most of all? I learned……there are a whole lot of people in your cheering section and you might not even know they’re sitting there. After I pulled this muscle, I was amazed by the sweet and kind messages while I tried to prepare to run my first 10k with an injury. But NOTHING prepared me for the ovwhelming amount of kindness and support that flooded into my inbox when I crossed the finish line. From the early morning you can do this messages to the ones that came in throughout the race to the inspiring amount of support as I iced my pulled muscle…..it brought me to tears. And the amazing thing? When Jennifer and Lashawn and I found each other at the finish line….they said the same thing. It’s not just me. We all have a cheering section. And wow, do they show up when you may not be expecting them.Got a big goal? Working on something new? Share it in the comments. I’d love to join your support team.#medalmonday #rundisney
