Are you looking for a Mom’s A Wrinkle in Time Review? I’m sharing who this movie is for, and why it matters.
The night before I attended the A Wrinkle in Time Cast Press Junket, I got to see the film. There’s something especially magical about seeing a movie before it releases in theatres. I brought a girlfriend along to the Disney Studios Animation lot in Burbank, and spent a Friday evening (on the screen) with Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, Storm Reid and the amazing mind that is Ava Duvernay.
As a HUGE Wrinkle in Time fan (I’ve probably read the book six or seven times both as a child and again as a teacher with my class)…..I’m not going to lie, I had some pretty high expectations. I mean, it’s Disney after all. They do magic pretty darn well. But the key? I expected this movie to be for KIDS. I honestly didn’t care as much what the critics thought. I cared what my STUDENTS would think. This amazing story observes the journey of Meg Murry, an awkward teenager who has lost her father to…..A Wrinkle in Time. She teams up with a cast of characters (including her brother, a friend from school, and three out of this world beings) to travel beyond her own planet, travel beyond her own self doubt, and to find her father.
What did I LOVE about this film? What do I want you to take away from my A Wrinkle in Time review? Disney created an amazing film for my STUDENTS. Kids ages seven or eight through high school need to see the movie. Where I grew up loving ET, Back to the Future, and The NeverEnding Story……they will love this. It’s stunning (the costumes are superb), and has some messages I believe are extremely important for children to hear. From bullying to self worth to finding value in your appearance, A Wrinkle in Time will prompt conversations that we all need to be having with our children. And the fact that many of my students will being seeing a heroine who looks just like them? IS A BIG DEAL.
The Verdict: This is a must see for kids ages 7-18. They’ll love it for the visuals and the amazing characters. You’ll love it for the messages it portrays. And if you haven’t read the book? DO IT NOW!
Looking to see some of that A Wrinkle in Time Cast magic? A Wrinkle in Time will be landing in movie theatres everywhere THIS Friday, March 9th. And don’t forget to check back, later this week I’ll be posting my own parent’s review of A Wrinkle in Time!
