Let's talk kids books with movies that are perfect to celebrate reading.....these are the top 11 options for middle grade readers!

Let's talk about encouraging kids to read.  There are a ton of amazing ways to celebrate reading with your kids and to make it fun for more reluctant readers.  From magazines for kids to graphic novels to kids books with movies the key? Is finding something that your CHILD enjoys.  One of my favorite things to do as a teacher (and now as a mom) was to celebrate some of the best classic kids books with movies.  We read the book, and then had a movie watch party.  It's so much fun to see the stories come to life on the big screen and a great way to hook kids into the story!

These? Are some of my favorite options for kids books with movies.

11 Kids Books with Movies

Shop the Books:

  1. Charlotte's Web: This is a total classic.  Charlotte's Web is a Newbury Honor book, and the movie is a classic as well.  We loved rereading and rewatching this one!
  2. Harry Potter: Lydia is SUPER into the book series right now and we've been rewatching the films (these can be a bit scary, so analyze your child's comfort level before watching).
  3. A Wrinkle in Time: In my opinion, this book and the A Wrinkle in Time movie are highly underrated.  The book is absolutely a masterpiece, and I loved the film after rereading the book.  This is a great one for upper elementary school students!
  4. Little Women: This classic story is loved generation after generation, and now that there is a recently released new film? It's definitely having a moment!
  5. The BFG: This book has been a favorite in our house for the last year or so, and we've watched the movie more than a few times.  It's really well done, and a fun adventure fantasy story!
  6. The Witches: There are multiple movies about the Witches, but last year's live action movie? Brings the book to life!
  7. Holes: This story is a CLASSIC and was always a huge hit with my 4th graders.  It's a goofy and entertaining story that they'll love!
  8. The One and Only Ivan: I absolutely love this movie and hadn't read the book before we first watched it.  It's a GEM.  This is a must kids books with movies read for any animal loving kid!
  9. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe: Looking for a great fantasy story? The Chronicles of Narnia are filled with amazing characters, magic and true fantasy.  They're beloved by oh so many generations, and the movies are STUNNING!
  10. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: A favorite in our house, if you haven't read the book lately, it's a definite must read and watch (let's be clear, the original movie not the new one).
  11. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The book that started it all.  The story that started it all.  This series is iconic, and trust me when I say…..upper elementary aged kids are OBSESSED.  And now? As of TODAY?  The animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid film is ON DISNEY+.  We got to screen it early and it's ADORABLE.  This hour long film is perfect for classroom use, at home viewings and trust me…..your kids are going to LOVE IT.

Which of these kids books with movies is YOUR favorite?

The way I laughed out loud when I spotted this lit The way I laughed out loud when I spotted this little area during our day at Knott’s Berry Farm……. (teachers, you get it right?!?)I mean, HAD TO TAKE A PHOTO (or 20). This weekend was the start of Peanuts Celebration at Knott’s Berry Farm and we spent a day immersed in all things Snoopy. From the rides in Camp Snoopy to the adorable new shows to the ACTUAL PIGS in Pigpen’s Pig Pen there was so much to do…..I’m so glad that Knott’s invited us to check it all out! Now, who is YOUR favorite Peanuts character? ✨ Happy 100th Disney!✨⠀ ⠀ 💜The people a ✨ Happy 100th Disney!✨⠀⠀💜The people are the magic. Yesterday was filled with friends and food and fun and feet (sore ones after walking around from dawn to way past dusk)…….and as Lydia and I tucked ourselves into bed last night……I felt so much gratitude. Our happy place has brought so much joy into our lives and so many people that enrich each moment.⠀⠀✨The Disney 100 Celebration will be happening ALL YEAR, and I feel like we still have so much to see and do.⠀⠀💜Favorite Moments and Experiences from our day one of Disney 100:⠀🚂riding Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad: I avoided ALLLLLL spoilers (there are some in this carousel btw), and had seen NONE of the attraction until we stepped into the queue…. it was absolutely adorable and I can’t WAIT to ride it again, plus when we exited the ride…..some of the team that created it were at the exit and seeing their smiles? ABSOLUTE DISNEY MAGIC.⠀🌅seeing the sun rise over the castle bright and early⠀💕running into friends every 5 minutes, it felt like a giant reunion⠀👗characters in their costumes, not going to lie….we didn’t wait in lines for them….they were length, but we gave a wave as we walked by and they looked stunning⠀⠀✨When is your next Disney trip???
