Do you have plans to sit in the stands for america’s favorite pastime and a game or two? This is the ultimate guide to the best baseball game outfits in any weather and will help you to figure out what to wear to a baseball game that's actually cute and comfortable!

What to wear to a baseball game: this is the ultimate guide to comfortable outfits for baseball games

Take me out to the……you're singing it too now right? When we moved to San Diego a few years ago, we decided to buy season tickets to Petco Park. Needless to say, we've been to our fair share of Padres games. Whether you're a big time baseball fan or this is your first time at a game this baseball season ….. this guide will help you figure out what to wear to a baseball game and what to bring (aside from your team spirit and your cheering voice of course).

The weather at any ball park can vary greatly from day to day and month to month, so I highly suggest checking the expected temperatures as you plan what to wear to your next baseball game. Here in San Diego, Petco Park is located close to the water…..so it can be cooler than other parts of the city especially during the end of season games or early in the season games. Most of the year (the exception being August and early September)…..you'll definitely want to wear layers for when that cold weather comes in off the ocean. During the end of summer it can be VERY hot and sunny, so you'd plan totally differently for games during those warmer months.

What to Wear to a Baseball Game: Comfortable Outfits

Let's start with the basics. Any baseball outfit should be comfortable. You'll be sitting (or standing and screaming) for at least three hours and usually more than four hours and if we're being honest…..the chairs in most baseball stadiums aren't exactly luxurious. Remember, you'll be sitting in hard seats, and climbing up and down stairs to get to the seats in the first place. It's a good idea to pick an outfit that is easy to sit and move in. So, probably not a short mini skirt or dress. For me? I pretty much have a dress code for a casual outfit that works at games. I do denim shorts in the warmer summer months or a chic pair of wide-leg jeans (sometimes skinny jeans ) in the cooler months. I'll pair those with a baseball jersey or a simple white tee and white sneakers or other comfortable shoes that I don't mind getting dirty….they're perfect with casual blue jeans or cutoff shorts . I've also done paper bag cotton shorts or joggers during the in between weather months.

What to Wear to a Baseball Game: these outfit ideas are perfect for baseball season!

Shop game day jeans and tees:

Now cute outfits are great……but the most important part? Layers and options. You'll want the ability to adjust to any temperature changes and to add or remover a layer when needed. I highly recommend a t shirt combined with a sweatshirt or cardigan or sweater. In the cooler months (like post season games or early on in the season) or during a night game I'd bring a denim jacket or lightweight sherpa jacket (any lightweight jacket should be fine). Remember, late afternoon or early evening games can end up going pretty late…..so prepare for later evening temperatures!

Shop lightweight jackets and jerseys:

What to Wear to a Baseball Game: t-shirt dress or midi dress

Want to dress in something other than shorts or jeans? You can absolutely wear cute baseball style outfits that are a little dressier (especially if you have box seats or are going to the game for a date night). I've done a pretty midi dress or a t shirt dress with sneakers (I don't suggest flip flops or any high heels ….they'll make walking around the stadium AWFUL). You could also do a simple sheath cotton dress with a team jersey and cute closed-toe shoes.

My biggest suggestion for what to wear to a baseball game that isn't jeans? Think fabric. You'll want cotton or other comfortable and breathable materials. You're sitting outside, and you want to wear something you can sit easily in and feel comfortable running around the stadium in. The perfect outfit is whatever feels the best to YOU.

Shop T Shirt Dresses:

Baseball Outfits : Accessories

At any live sporting event there are certain accessories that will make your experience more comfortable. Being prepared is a great way to insure that you'll actually have an enjoyable experience.

wondering what to wear to a baseball game? These outfit ideas are PERFECT!

For me? The most important part of what to wear to a baseball game is a baseball cap. A cute baseball hat will shade the sun AND turn a basic outfit into something fun that includes your team’s colors and mascot. If you want bonus points then order a city connect hat for your team…..they're killer designs and so much fun.

Shop City Connect Hat:

Now, I know you came here for baseball game outfit ideas but let's talk bags and how to carry what you need. Most stadiums have some pretty strict bag policies and they WILL send you straight back to your car if your bag doesn't meet the size requirements for game day entry.

I'd suggest a belt bag for game days (good thing they're totally in style). It's the best way to carry a pair of sunglasses along with your wallet and a cell phone battery pack (you'll be at the game for a long time and I can guarantee you'll want to charge your phone).

Shop game day Bags:

Shoes for a Baseball Stadium Visit

Now, I might sound like an old lady here but …… PLEASE WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES to a baseball game. Most stadiums are older, they're built with lots of stairs and parking tends to be a decent walk away from the actual seats. Uncomfortable shoes will absolutely ruin your time at the game. You'll also be walking in a crowd, there are a lot of chances for people to accidentally step on your foot or toes. Personally? I think a pair of sneakers is usually your best bet. I've also done Ugg boots or low platform Uggs (these are MEGA comfortable and warm for cooler months).

Shop Shoes:

What to BRING to a Baseball Game: Items You Won't Want to Forget

There are a handful of items that I always bring to a game with me. While you don't need a TON of stuff, you'll need some basics that will make it more fun and relaxing. Remember, in most stadiums, you won't be able to bring in food or drinks. Therefore, there is no reason to pack snacks unless you'll be tailgating.

Items I Always Bring:

  • cell phone battery: trust me, you'll need to charge your phone at least once! Be sure to bring a fully charged battery pack and a charging cord
  • sunscreen roller or wipes: sometimes the sun can be a bit unpredictable at ball games and it (obviously) moves throughout the day. I always bring a sunscreen roller or wipes so that we have it in case needed!
  • hand wipes: Napkins can sometimes be hard to find, so we bring wet wipes or hand wipes with us just case (that ball park food can be messy).
  • pill box: your larger pill bottles won't fit in a small bag, so I use these these tiny containers to carry just enough of whatever medications I may need.
  • advil: there is NOTHING as bad as getting a headache in the middle of a stadium filled with screaming fans. I always bring a tiny container filled with advil just in case.
  • gas / bloat pills: that stadium food? It can do funny things to your stomach. I bring THESE gas and bloat pills with me just in case. They work like a CHARM.

Baseball Game Outfits

I promise, having these items with you will make the game a lot more enjoyable and fun! They're just as important as having a great outfit.

So there you have it. Whether you are heading to your first baseball game or your baseball team is heading to the World Series this year and you're preparing for your 21st game of the season…….this should give you some great suggestions for what to wear to a baseball game. Be sure to take weather and time of year into account, and always always always plan a perfect outfit that includes your favorite team’s colors (you have to, right?).

There are people cheering you on…..and you don’t even realize it.I learned a LOT during the 7 months of training for this race. I learned that I should stretch and warm up (thanks pulled muscle for that life lesson), I learned that small progress over time leads to achieving big goals. I learned that sunshine and being outside makes me a happier person. I learned that I’m more of an athlete than I thought I was. But most of all? I learned……there are a whole lot of people in your cheering section and you might not even know they’re sitting there. After I pulled this muscle, I was amazed by the sweet and kind messages while I tried to prepare to run my first 10k with an injury. But NOTHING prepared me for the ovwhelming amount of kindness and support that flooded into my inbox when I crossed the finish line. From the early morning you can do this messages to the ones that came in throughout the race to the inspiring amount of support as I iced my pulled muscle…..it brought me to tears. And the amazing thing? When Jennifer and Lashawn and I found each other at the finish line….they said the same thing. It’s not just me. We all have a cheering section. And wow, do they show up when you may not be expecting them.Got a big goal? Working on something new? Share it in the comments. I’d love to join your support team.#medalmonday #rundisney
