Our Disney On Ice Review: Would We Go Again?
Now, let's state the obvious. We are a Disney family through and through. We are Disneyland annual passholders, we counted down to Frozen 2 like there was no tomorrow, and we can Disneyland outfit with the best of 'em. We loved our first Disney Cruise and have another one in the works. So it probably comes as a surprise that we had NEVER been to a Disney on Ice performance. Why? The timing never worked out when we lived up in LA….and honestly? I figured we'd seen so many Disney shows, did we really need to see another?
We just got home from seeing Mickey's Search Party, and I wanted to write our Disney on Ice review while everything was fresh in my mind. But spoiler? Disney on Ice is coming back (next time it will be the Celebrate Memories show) in April, and Lydia is already asking to go. This time she wants to invite her friends from school.
Our Disney On Ice Review: Would We Go Again?
We got to attend the opening night of Mickey's Search Party here in San Diego (at the Pechanga Arena — if you're local, it will be in town until Sunday the 26th and there are still tickets available) and all three of us had a blast.
Lydia was so excited, she actually woke up at about 5 am this morning talking about Disney on Ice and asking how many hours until we were going. Fast forward a school day, then we were on the way! Lydia opted to NOT wear an actual costume (I was surprised). Instead she wanted to wear her fancy Frozen 2 dress. Lots of kids were wearing costumes at the show or disney themed outfits. I was a bit worried about the temperature (I'd never been to a hockey game so didn't have any reference). It was cool, but not uncomfortable. We were all fine in jeans and a sweatshirt (or in Lydia's case a dress and jacket).
I got a lot of messages asking about seating. We sat in the second section from the floor (Section LL in the first row of it) and our view was AWESOME. But honestly? The arena isn't that big and it looked like most seats had a good view. The show is great about using the entire ice, and being on multiple levels….so kids will be fully entertained from every seat.
So what did we think of the show itself? My actual Disney on Ice review? It was absolutely amazing. I can't BELIEVE we waited this long to go to a Disney on Ice show. The numbers were stunning, and I was so impressed with the skill of the performers ( would you expect anything less from Disney?). We aren't just talking ice skating, we're talking tricks, jumps, aerobatics, and some of the most amazing costumes I've seen anywhere. Mickey's Search Party has an all new Coco number and it was my favorite!
Lydia loved every moment. I keep waiting for the Disney Magic to fade a little for her, but tonight? Was proof that it's strong as ever. She shrieked when her favorite characters entered the arena (here's looking at you Elsa) and loved seeing Mickey and Minnie. The plot of Mickey's Search Party was GREAT for her. It follows a series of clues to help Mickey and Minnie rescue Tinkerbell from evil Captain Hook. Each clue leads to a different Disney character and number. Lydia had a blast guessing which character was next, and our resident Disney expert? Was right every single time.
So the verdict? Yup, Disney on Ice will definitely be seeing us again. We loved it…..and can't wait for the next San Diego show! Do you agree with our Disney on Ice review? Have you seen it and would you go again?
