Materials Needed:

Note, what you use for the base costumes will depend on when you are wearing them. In september, we created tshirts. If you’ll be wearing these costumes towards the end of october then you may need extra warmth and would prefer a cotton sweatshirt to a tshirt.

To create your homemade Bluey and family members Halloween costumes inspired by our favorite characters , you’ll need the following materials:

For a diy bluey costume :

  1. Royal blue hoodie or sweatshirt
  2. Royal blue sweatpants or leggings
  3. two shades of blue felt (lighter color for the chest and a darker color for the blue spot )
  4. Fabric glue or hot glue gun
  5. Scissors
  6. Black fabric marker or pencil

diy bingo costume :

  1. Tan onesie or tshirt
  2. orange or tan skirt / shorts / leggings
  3. tan felt
  4. Fabric glue or hot glue gun
  5. Scissors
  6. Black fabric marker

For the Adults’ Heeler Costumes (Bandit and Chilli):

  1. Blue t-shirts (for Bandit) and a tan t-shirt (for your chilli costume )
  2. Brown pants or jeans for chilli and blue pants for Bandit (a great costume means you’ll need to commit to your color scheme)
  3. Black fabric marker
  4. White fabric paint or white fabric marker
  5. dark blue felt
  6. blue felt fabric (for Bandit)
  7. Fabric glue or hot glue gun

For everyone: ear headbands

Step 1: Prepare the Base Costumes

  1. Start by ordering each family member their respective blue (for Bluey and Bandit) or tan (for Chilli and Bingo) t-shirts and brown pants or jeans.
  2. Order ear headbands (Bluey and Bandit will need blue ears, while Chilli and Bingo will need brown / tan ears).

Step 2: Create Bluey’s Features

Bluey’s distinct features are her white chest and blue ears. Here’s how to make them:

  1. Cut white or lighter blue felt fabric into an oval shape for Bluey’s chest. Glue it to the front of the tshirt or front of the sweatshirt .
  2. Cut two black felt fabric circles for Bluey’s ears. Glue them to the top of the hoodie if you’re doing a sweatshirt OR use the ear headband for this.
  3. Use the darker blue fabric to create the blue spots on bluey’s fur (on the back of the sweatshirt ).

Step 3: bingo halloween costume

  1. Prepare the tan top or sweatshirt.
  2. Cut tan felt fabric into an oval shape for Bingo’s chest and glue it to the front of her outfit.
  3. Add brown sports to her back on the right side
  4. Use tan felt triangles to add ears to a hoodie OR use an ear headband.

Step 4: Create Bandit and Chilli’s Features

For Bandit:
  1. Cut out Bandit’s spots from navy blue felt fabric and glue them onto the blue t-shirt and use the lighter blue felt for the chest area.
  2. Optional: Wear a dog ear headband to mimic Bandit’s ears.
For Chilli:
  1. Use a tan felt to add Chilli’s chest to a t shirt or sweatshirt.
  2. Use an ear headband for Chilli’s ears.

To complete your Bluey family Halloween extravaganza, don’t forget about Nana and Grandpa Bob (or even bluey’s cousin Muffin) . These lovable characters are integral to the Heeler family’s adventures and really round out these group costumes to the full experience with the Heeler family. To create Nana’s costume, you can start with blue base outfit. Carry a basket of delicious snacks, just like Nana does on her visits and add her distinctive pink reading glasses for a fun and silly touch that will really bring it all together.

For Grandpa Bob’s look, wear a grey version of the base costume. You can also fashion fake eyebrows to capture Grandpa Bob’s charming personality. These great costume elements will add an extra layer of authenticity to your Bluey-themed Halloween celebration, making it even more delightful for everyone involved.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully transformed your family into the beloved Heeler family from “Bluey” for Halloween. With these homemade costumes, you’ll not only have a memorable and fun-filled Halloween but also showcase your creativity and love for our favorite show and dog family. Enjoy the festivities and trick-or-treating as Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, and Chilli in your diy bluey costume and accessories!
