Are you gearing up to watch the latest release from Marvel Studios? This Fantastic Four: First Steps review will help you to decide what ages and WHO this film is best for (and how much of the Marvel Universe you need to know about before watching) ! No spoilers, but…..there are a couple things you need to know before seeing the film……

I think it’s important to say, I am not a massive Marvel girlie. I’ve seen SOME of the films….but I don’t know the backstory to every character. And……without saying too much……this movie might have made me a Marvel stan. It’s…..that good. I walked out of the theatre wanting to immediately see it again, and can’t wait to share Fantastic Four: First Steps with my family when it releases.
Let’s discuss………
Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps Review
What is it even about?
Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps drops us into a bold, retro-futuristic version of the 1960s—think vintage vibes with a cosmic twist (and some pretty amazing costumes). We’re reintroduced to Marvel’s First Family: Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm aka Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm aka Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm aka The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).
When a planet-devouring space god named Galactus (Ralph Ineson) shows up with his mysterious Herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), things go from high-stakes to personal. The fate of Earth is on the line—and so is everything they care about.
The Fantastic Four: First Step’s Running Time
The movie is 1 hour and 55 minutes. It’s fast moving, action filled and felt like just the right amount of time for a high energy movie.
What is The Fantastic Four: First Steps Rated? And is it scary?
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is rated PG-13 for some language, action, peril and violence. This is a classic comic book style story, with good versus evil and lots of battle scenes. I think it’s important to note, nothing looks overly scary or creepy. There is ONE swear word in the entire film. If you’ve got a comic book loving kiddo, this is probably fine for them unless battle scenes and destruction are triggering.

My As a Mom Reaction: The Fantastic Four: First Steps
I LOVED THIS MOVIE. It provided just enough backstory for me to keep up, and is absolutely a stand alone film. If you are well versed in the Marvel Universe, you’ll love it….but you’ll also love it if you aren’t. It’s visually stunning, super engaging and a ton of fun to watch. I can’t recommend it enough!
I will absolutely be taking my 11 year old to see it……and no spoiler but there is some pretty awesome girl power content throughout the film that I just can’t wait for her to see!
