In the weeks leading up to our Elio screening….I started to wonder……I had heard very little about the film. Why was this? Was it an indication of the film itself? And spoiler, nope. It was just….my algorithm? Because I walked out of our early screening of Elio saying I couldn’t wait to watch it again!
There are a few things you might want to know before seeing Pixar’s latest release………
Pixar’s Elio Review
What is it even about?
Elio is about an 11-year-old kid named Elio Solis who’s super imaginative and a little awkward—basically, he doesn’t totally fit in on Earth. After a series of VERY interesting events (and a lot of wishing things in his life on Earth were different) —he’s beamed into space.
But here’s the twist: the aliens think he’s Earth’s official ambassador (maybe due to a few statements of his own).
Suddenly Elio’s stuck in the middle of a super quirky alien council called the Communiverse, trying to represent all of humanity… even though he’s just a kid who didn’t totally sign up for any of this. Along the way, he meets a bunch of strange and funny alien creatures, and gets into some pretty wild situations.
Pixar Elio’s Running Time
The movie is 1 hour and 39 minutes. It’s cute and funny, and I think it’s a GREAT length for a family film. This would be a good first in theatre movie!
What is Pixar’s Elio Rated? And is it scary?
Elio is rated PG for action, peril and thematic elements. The movie isn’t scary at all. I do think it’s worth noting that there is a significant focus on Elio losing his parents, along with some physical fights between kids and you know…..a space battle or two.
Our Family’s Reactions: Pixar’s Elio
My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this film! I thought it was cute, had great character development, and the overall message was so important. It’s nicely layered…..cute characters and an easy to follow storyline for the younger kids, great messaging for older kids and some fun references for adults.
Lydia’s Thoughts:
“I thought it was such a fun movie to watch, I loved seeing a new story. It was really unpredictable and I loved Glordon as a character!”
Robbie’s Thoughts
“I thought it was interesting right from the start. I liked how it paid close attention to details regarding the Voyager, space probe and even included quotes from Carl Sagan and the serious side of science. It did a great job combining fantasy and real elements of space study.”
Elio Merchandise:
Elio opens in theatres on June 20th.
