We all have a hidden passion……a secret talent.  Something special that we love that is 100% not related to our jobs.  A conversation at the One and Only Ivan Press Junket? Reminded me of the importance of fostering mine (and my daughter’s).

This is a WEIRD time.  So many of us have spent more time at home in the last six months than we have for the last six years.  This is why we’ve all picked up new hobbies.  From becoming sourdough masters to demolishing our own bathrooms…..it seems like we’ve all tapped into our inner passions.  And it’s good, right?

I’ve become, quite the newbie gardener.  In fact, I spent 3 weeks removing huge rocks and roots and turning an abandoned dirt plot into a vegetable garden.  This passion? My new art that has absolutely nothing to do with teaching, parenting, this blog…..has been a mental reprise during a tough time.  I found myself retreating to the plot each day and gaining so much joy from watching my work blossom into something new and beautiful.

The One and Only Ivan is a piece of art in itself (in our The One and Only Ivan movie review that I’ll tell you all about it and why it’s a must see on Disney Plus)…..but my favorite part of the chat we had with the cast during the press junket? Hearing about their passions that have NOTHING to do with acting.

What is Your Hidden Passion?

“The character Bob is rather prophetic……. he said, we’re all a little artsy……I actually wanted to kick this off by asking everybody, how you’re a little bit artsy outside of your acting.”

That’s intense right? To ask Angelina Jolie, Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell, Danny DeVito, Helen Mirren, Chaka Khan and the whole cast what they love besides acting (this art that they’re MASTERS of).  I loved hearing their answers.

Bryan Cranston, yes he’s the sourdough master and Chaka Khan? Told us about how she ran away and joined the circus at age 16.  But my favorite answer? Came from Angelina Jolie (that probably doesn’t come as a shock).

“But I think my creativity is my kids….being with them and making up stories before bed or just being silly with them. I think…. just watching each of them become uniquely who they are and being around it and going into each of their, whether it be their rooms and talking to them or developing….helping them develop…….love seeing other people’s creativity.”

Seeing other people’s creativity, is always inspiring to me.  And The One and Only Ivan? Explores how creativity becomes a method of communication for Ivan himself.  And I can’t wait for you guys to see it.

THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN is streaming on Disney+ starting August 21st
