We’re talking about must know preschool skills, and how to practice them with your children!
Thank you to LeapFrog Academy for sponsoring this post.
Let’s talk preschool skills. As a teacher, I firmly believe that children need MULTIPLE ways to learn. Multiple methods and exposures are the best way to insure that YOUR child is learning a new skill in a way that is fun and effective.
As Lydia inches closer and closer to kindergarten, we are exploring ways to practice the skills she will need to have mastered once she gets there. From letter recognition to initial sound identification to number sense…..I know how important these skills ARE. The reality is, kindergarten is much more academic that it was for all of us. And I want Lydia to be prepared.
If you follow us on Instagram, then you know we added something new to our arsenal of ways to practice academic skills for a preschooler. Besides reading together, playing games, and expanding language…….we have been testing out LeapFrog Academy and I’m excited to share what I think as a teacher.
LeapFrog Academy: My Thoughts as a Teacher
Honestly, sometimes we need an in-a-pinch screen time option for Lydia (how else am I supposed to get through grocery shopping in peace?). About a month ago, we set up a LeapFrog Academy account for her…..and I’m SUPER impressed. This simple app has well thought out games that take Lydia’s little avatar through a world of learning. As she “wins” each game, the skills evolve. From letter recognition to counting games…..she loves it. She even earns little prizes as she passes the levels. And the best part? As we walk through the grocery store I love hearing her practice her sounds…….out loud and everything!
LeapFrog Academy houses games and activities that address preschool, kindergarten and first grade academic skills, and even offers the option to set up 24 games for offline play. Plus, they have a parent portal where I can track which skills Lydia has mastered! And if you have more than one child? You can house up to five avatars within the app!
