Golden Tote: 5 Days of Style

titleShopping used to be one of my hobbies.  No joke, I loved wandering around cute boutiques on the weekends and trying on different pieces.  Finding great seasonal separates and planning for new wardrobe investments was fun! Enter, adorable baby Lydia.  She is definitely cute, but not really the best shopping companion.  Obviously, my leisurely shopping trips have been shortened (or cancelled) since her arrival.  While I may be spending weekends at playdates and the park instead of the mall, that doesn’t mean I want to sacrifice my sense of style.  I love putting together outfits, and trying on new pieces……but don’t have the time to search them out.

Enter my latest obsession, Golden Tote.  Golden Tote is your own (affordable) personal shopping service.  Golden Tote‘s fashion fairies asked me a series of questions complete with inspiration boards about my personal style and fashion preferences.  Then, the magic began.  My tote arrived…..and I was blown away!  I’ve done personal styling services before…..and usually end up with one or two pieces I like.  My tote was filled with 6 items…..and I was in love with ALL of them! I kept squealing to my husband that I would have bought each of these items on my own.

#FlavorofFall #CollectiveBiascaramel appleCan you believe the first day of fall is almost here? I’m craving cooler temperatures, boots, warm drinks, and fall recipes.  This year, I’m lusting after a new fall flavor…..apple!  After a recent trip to Walmart, I was inspired to throw an apple themed party.  Let me tell you, the smell of apple cider and caramel melting for carmel apples………made the warm Los Angeles temperature feel significantly cooler! It was perfect timing, my father in law came to town……so we had a welcome to town, apple themed celebration complete with spiced apple cider and a make your own caramel apple bar.  The best part? Each of these recipes was a prep ahead scenario, so I could actually enjoy the party!

Back to School: Chicken Salad Sandwich with Got Milk?

Advertisementchicken salad recipeTeachers need great lunches too, right? Just like the kids, we pack our lunch boxes each morning…..and march off to school.  When the people at Got Milk? asked me to create one of my favorite lunch recipes……..this easy chicken salad recipe was the obvious choice!  My mother in law made this EVERY time we went to South Carolina to visit….and it was always perfectly paired with a glass of cold milk.

When planning lunches, I always try to bring something that will give fuel for the day. What better fuel than a protein filled sandwich and a cold glass of milk?!?

chicken salad recipe

Ingredients:

4-5 cups of finely chopped chicken

2-3 stalks of celery

1/2 cup of sweet pickle cubes

2 Tablespoons of pickle juice

2 boiled eggs, finely chopped

3/4 cup Miracle Whip

1/4 Cup Mayonnaise

Mix.  Add salt and pepper to taste.

Fall Fashion

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group®, InStyle, Vogue and Elle, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #inspirefallfashion  http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

2014-09-07_0006Can you believe it’s time to think about fall fashion already? My favorite kick off to the fall fashion season, is September Issue time.  There’s nothing better than flipping through the pages of InStyle or Elle and fantasizing about cooler temperatures.  Every year around this time I make a list of fall trends I want to try……organize pieces from past years that will work, and make a wishlist of new pieces I need.

Luckily, this year Target is offering a stellar deal……buy two Fall fashion bibles (InStyle, Vogue, or ELLE) and get a $5 gift card….so I snatched up my copies last week.  And was inspired to create this fun fall outfit.  Two of the most wearable fall trends this year? Nature inspired pieces and chunky knits.  This dress has been sitting in my closet waiting for crisp fall air.  I always pictured wearing it with a leather jacket and heels…..but after eyeing nature inspired pieces mixed with knits in InStyle…..I went a totally different direction. So cute, right?

DIY Growth Chart

DIY Growth ChartSomehow, I feel like I blinked…..and our darling daughter is already approaching a year.  When did THAT happen? I have all these projects I meant to do during her first year, and the time has flown. I can’t believe how much Lydia has grown already……and wanted to track her growth.  I don’t want to forget how far she’s already come!

So, I partnered with Got Milk? to create a simple DIY Growth Chart.  Did you know that milk is a stellar source of protein? There are 8 grams of protein in every 8 oz glass. Milk also has 9 essential nutrients: calcium, protein, potassium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, vitamin A, riboflavin, and niacin.  Milk incorporated into a healthy diet prevents cavities, strengthens nails and bones.

Milk creates a strong foundation for our children, which is why it was the PERFECT inspiration for this simple craft!

DIY Growth ChartDIY Growth ChartSupplies:

yard stick

chalkboard paint

paint pens

How To:Paint one layer of chalkboard paint onto yard stick. Allow to dry for one hour before applying second coat.  Wait 24 hours for paint to completely dry.  Use paint pens to mark each increment (we marked every 12 inches).  In a separate color mark each milestone with date or age.

DIY Growth ChartDIY Growth ChartPretty easy right? I can’t wait to see how much Lydia has grown when we use the growth chart again this month!

Aztec

aztecHappy short week! We had a four day weekend, and it was AMAZING.  Now, it’s certainly hard to get back in the swing of things at work.  It was a great weekend filled with naps, playdates, takeout, and catching up on DVR.  We attended church at an offshoot location, and it was fun to worship in a totally different setting.   I don’t know how this dress hasn’t appeared here already, it’s been worn a TON.  The service we attended was further from home, and of course I hadn’t picked out an outfit the night before.  Thank goodness for this standby.  I threw it on, added a couple of my favorite accessories and was good to go! Aren’t dresses like that the BEST?
