Am I the only one who is obsessed with Disneynature films? From Born in China to the current upcoming release of Disneynature Penguins (in theatres on April 17th), I love seeing these beautiful films come to life.  Disneynature films are the product of YEARS of filming, amazingly talented teams, and truly a labor of love each time.  They give us (and our families) a glimpse into parts of the world we don’t often see, and remind us that the world is bigger than JUST US.  And one of my favorite parts? Disneynature always partners with an amazing organization on opening weekend to give back and support the animals in their films.

Disneynature Penguins will be giving a portion of ticket sales from opening weekend to the Wildlife Conservation Network.  This amazing organization helps to remove plastic from beaches and oceans in partnership with the Global Penguin Society.

Disneynature Penguins: A Full Family Review

We were lucky enough to screen the film, and I got a LOT of questions about my thoughts on ages that would enjoy it.

Penguins is rated G, and it’s a shorter film (a little over an hour).  Timewise, I felt it was perfect for ages 5 and up.  Lydia was engaged the entire time, and really enjoyed seeing the animals.  The narrator and storyline of Steve (the main penguin) were fun for her to follow, and visually the film was STUNNING.

Main question I got…..was there anything scary? This is a NATURE film, and there is one scene with the penguins and their predators (leopard seals).  It wasn’t terrifying, but it was a little stressful to watch.  My suggestion? It’s about 3 minutes long.  If your child is sensitive to this type of scene or visual, this is the perfect time for a restroom break.  Lydia was nervous, but not scared.

My overall thoughts on the film? It’s a must see.  I love that it educated my daughter about a species that she didn’t know a ton about.  I love that the film showcased the penguins adorable personalities.  And I love that it reminded us of the importance of taking care of our planet for ALL species.  It’s a beautiful film and bonus, the score and soundtrack are AWESOME (there’s even a killer rock song at the end).

Are you planning to see Disneynature Penguins? It lands in theaters on April 17th!
