I’m in the midst of training for my first of what will probably be many rundisney events or races. While I’ve been running for years, I’m shocked that as a massive disney fan (disneyland is pretty much our second home)…..I’ve never committed to a race. Probably because, they’ve been only available at walt disney world for the last few years and we’re on the west coast.
But, great news….. run disney costumes will soon be needed on both coasts. At the D23 Expo this last year , it was announced that disney races are returning to disneyland so we’ll have official run disney race options in both US disney parks soon.
For now, I have two friends and our group text to thank. Months ago, I woke up to an already started conversation (they both live in east coast and central time zones)……they had decided to sign up for the 2023 disney princess half marathon weekend (the 10k race to be exact). And they decided to sign me up. Since the race slots filled up VERY quickly, I’m glad they made the decision for me….because months later…..we’re almost to race day and I’m so excited. While I’ve run a ton of races, this will be my first race on disney property and I know it’s going to be really special.
I can’t wait to cross the finish line and to celebrate with some attractions, some epic disney and epcot food and some park time (we’re already debating whether we should do a day at animal kingdom or magic kingdom. Epcot is a given since the race is there but we can’t spend a weekend at our favorite theme parks without visiting some of the other parts).
Disney Running Outfits: What to Wear and What You Need
Like any race outfit or running costume , disney running outfits need to be functional as well as fun. Planning a costume idea around your favorite disney character is part of the fun of a disney race…..but you also want to be sure that you are comfortable for the duration of your run.
A few things to keep in mind when planning for which disney running outfits you’ll wear during race weekend:
- NOTHING NEW: like any race outfit, you’ll want to test drive everything from your running socks to your shoes to your running skirt to your sports bra. You want to be sure everything fits, supports, doesn’t rub or chafe, and that the fabric feels good. I’d try your race day outfit during a longer run (at least a 4 or 5 mile run for a good test) and also during a speed test to be sure it stands up to both.
- What will the weather be? The time of year and weather will make a HUGE difference, especially if you are coming from a climate that is different that the one at walt disney world. For me? I rarely layer or run in a jacket (even in the low 50 degree weather I warm up quickly and can run in a tee shirt or tank top).
- What accessories will you need? Do you want to have your phone with you? A running belt may be a good idea. You won’t need headphones, you’ll want to be able to chat with your fellow runners and to enjoy the music on the race course.

Now, let’s get to the fun part. The best places to find disney running outfits (clearly I’ve been doing some research here). There are some really fun options for a great group costume or easy costume pieces that can compliment your regular running gear.

Etsy shops and sellers who make custom disney running outfits are a fun option if you want something truly unique. From running skirts to custom sports bras, you can find anything and everything disney and run related. The great thing about going this route when planning your disney running outfits is that you can totally tailor to WHATEVER character you want. And if you don’t see what you like, make a custom request!

Another great option for disney running outfits is to find PERFECT solid colors and pieces for disney bounding. You can find the perfect red for snow white or the ideal blue for jasmine’s outfit and…..then you just need fun accessories. For me?
