Blue Accent Wall: Our Main Bedroom Update

Thinking about painting a blue accent wall? This is how our main bedroom update turned out! Thinking about a blue accent wall? This bedroom wall is painted with infinite deep sea by behr and it's a great example of a mature blue accent wall bedroom option (it's almost a navy accent wall, just a bit lighter!)

We've lived in our house for about 18 months now, and decided…..it was finally time to start making some updates.  If I'm being honest, I feel like we were almost afraid to make changes.  This is our first time owning a home, and it's been a big adjustment (in the best possible way).  It's taken some time to realize that this is our home, and that we can try whatever we want in terms of projects, painting and decor (aside from setting up my home office we've done very little).  Fair warning, I've been bit by the home decor bug, and now I want to make about a million changes to the house……one blue accent wall or project at a time.

I'm pretty sure Robbie thought I was going to ruin our carpet, or the walls in our bedroom……but, I figured….a simple blue accent wall was something I could paint over if I messed it up.  Right?

Spoiler, it was WAYYYYYYY easier than I expected to paint a wall.  I'm super happy with how it turned out and now? I want to paint pretty much everything.  It's amazing the difference a pop of color makes.

Blue Accent Wall: Our Main Bedroom Update

Looking for striped bedding? This navy blue seersucker bedding is PERFECT!

Thanks to the lovely gentleman working in the painting aisle, we got a ton of tips that were really helpful in painting.  He promised it wouldn't be hard to fix if I messed up, and reminded me to put down a ton of drop cloths and rolled paper.  He also pointed out that spending time carefully taping off edges would lead to a cleaner line and a more professional look.

Blue Accent Wall: Tips and Materials

Materials:

paint roller

Frogtape

Behr Paint in Infinite Deep Sea

Small Paint Brush for the edges

lots and lots of drop cloths

Tips:

  1. Tape, tape, tape.  Tape the edges of the wall, the trim, the circuits and be sure that the tape is sealed and secure.
  2. Clean the wall.  The paint we used didn't require primer……but we did want a clean surface.  I wiped the wall down with a wet sponge.  We also filled in an major dents or nail holes with putty.
  3. The paint we used was super pigmented, and only needed one layer…..but spot check.  You'll see small parts you missed or parts that need another layer as it dries (especially with a darker color).

Blue Accent Wall: Decor Elements

Looking for navy blue and grey bedroom ideas? The striped bedding adds a great dimension to the room, and I love the rattan lamps!

One of my favorite parts of updating our room and adding the blue accent wall? Was redecorating.  We didn't want to switch out the furniture…..but I loved adding in new simple accents to create a whole new vibe.  It's amazing how the colored wall and new decor pieces made a HUGE difference, and they coordinated perfectly with our striped bedding that we LOVE!

This rattan lamp is a KILLER price and a simple way to update a bedroom!

We switched out the lamps we'd had since we got married almost ten years ago for these rattan lamps.  I love how they really look more up to date and stylish without being over the top.

We had this blue dresser in another place in the house, but it seemed perfect with the accent wall and I'm so glad we moved it.  I grabbed these rattan storage boxes to organize all my jewelry and accessories.

Looking for navy and grey bedroom decor? I love how the faux fiddle leaf tree adds a pop of color to the bedroom, and those rattan lamps are PERFECT!

And the best accent we added? This faux fiddle leaf plant and basket.

On the hunt for blue striped bedding? This is the perfect shade of blue!

Now the only question? What to put on the wall above the bed (remember we're in California, so earthquakes are a concern).

Have you ever painted a blue accent wall? What decor do you think we need to add to the room?

There are people cheering you on…..and you don’t even realize it.I learned a LOT during the 7 months of training for this race. I learned that I should stretch and warm up (thanks pulled muscle for that life lesson), I learned that small progress over time leads to achieving big goals. I learned that sunshine and being outside makes me a happier person. I learned that I’m more of an athlete than I thought I was. But most of all? I learned……there are a whole lot of people in your cheering section and you might not even know they’re sitting there. After I pulled this muscle, I was amazed by the sweet and kind messages while I tried to prepare to run my first 10k with an injury. But NOTHING prepared me for the ovwhelming amount of kindness and support that flooded into my inbox when I crossed the finish line. From the early morning you can do this messages to the ones that came in throughout the race to the inspiring amount of support as I iced my pulled muscle…..it brought me to tears. And the amazing thing? When Jennifer and Lashawn and I found each other at the finish line….they said the same thing. It’s not just me. We all have a cheering section. And wow, do they show up when you may not be expecting them.Got a big goal? Working on something new? Share it in the comments. I’d love to join your support team.#medalmonday #rundisney
