Real Talk with the Andor Cast: what they shared about diversity at the Andor Press Junket…….

We love the Star Wars universe in our household (Robbie the most of all of us)…..from original trilogy to the amazing music to Galaxy’s Edge in our favorite place …… Star Wars demonstrates storytelling and character development at it’s finest.  Disney+ has launched a number of Star Wars series, and when we heard Andor was coming soon? I have to admit I was curious.

A few weeks ago, I logged into my computer, powered up Zoom and got to join the virtual Andor press junket. I loved hearing the cast and creators talk about their motivations and inspirations while working on the series.

Diversity in the new Andor Disney+ Series: The Cast Sounds Off

One of the hot topics at the Andor press junket? The amazing job that the team did casting this film.  I loved hearing the Andor Cast’s thoughts on the characters, the importance of representation in media, and what their involvement in this project meant to them.

“But it just, I don’t know, it gives me hope that now a little girl’s gonna watch it and be like oh my god, that girl kind of looks like me and maybe I want to be like her in Halloween or whatever that may be.  But it’s really exciting.  And it sort of comes to show how things are sort of shifting and I’m happy that Tony sort of brought me along, but it wasn’t part of the conversation, which was I think the most beautiful thing about it.  It wasn’t like oh, you’re Hispanic, so you need to be in this. ” -Adria Arjona, Bix Caleen

I think it was really just about the work.  And I truly hope for in the future, that that question kind of isn’t asked as much anymore, that it sort of becomes this normality where seeing two actors like Diego and I in Star Wars is cool and it’s the norm. – Adria

We’re supposed to be a mirror, you know, for audiences to be able to see themselves there and gladly.  And I think with the platforms and these new ways to connect with audiences, I think audiences are sending the right messages, you know?  And the industry is reacting.  I think when you buy a ticket, you send a message.  When you don’t buy it, you also send a message.  When you click, you send a message.  When you don’t, you send a message.  And the industry will respond to that and it’s responding, you know?  – Diego Luna, Cassian Andor

ANDOR is streaming exclusively on Disney+ starting September 21st.
