How We Wear: Toddler Back Carry (and a giveaway)

Toddler Wearing? We weren't sure about it either.  But, after mastering the back carry……I'm a huge toddler wearing fan! I'm sharing tips, tricks, and a giveaway for your own carrier (your choice of toddler or baby).
Toddler wearing? These tips will show you how to back carry your toddler.....and will totally change your LIFE!

Let's talk toddler wearing.  I was an avid babywearer when Lydia was an infant.  At some point around the time she started walking, I let it go.  She was fairly mobile, and Lydia is also very small for her age…..so I didn't really have an issue carrying her on my hip when we were out and about.

This summer? We've been traveling a ton.  Lots of museums, day trips…..and not always places we wanted to bring a stroller.  After an ENTIRE day of carrying Lydia around a museum, I spotted a mom wearing her toddler on her BACK…..and decided it was time to give toddler wearing a shot.

Toddler wearing? These tips will show you how to back carry your toddler.....and will totally change your LIFE!Tips for Toddler Wearing (back carry):

Practice piggyback riding first: Initially, I tried to get Lydia to climb into our toddler carrier on my front and then rotate to my back.  This? Pretty much chaos.  In fact, she informed me it was “dangerous”.  When that didn't work, I turned to Youtube.  Yes, seriously.  After watching MANY videos on toddler wearing……I formulated a plan.  I taught Lydia to climb on my back (piggyback style).  Once she was comfortable, she climbed on while I already had my carrier around my waist.  She lies on my back, and I just strap her right in.  She LOVES it! (THIS VIDEO WAS SUPER HELPFUL)

Low pressure: It took a couple weeks for Lydia to feel comfortable climbing on my back and being strapped in.  Try it at home, with no pressure.  If we'd been in public, it would have been a NIGHTMARE!

Use a toddler carrier: Toddler carriers are built for larger children and to support more weight.  Our LILLEbaby Carryon can hold up to 60 pounds, and provides great support.  I love that it is structured, it makes me feel like Lydia is secure and safe.  And, it's 100% cotton…..so soft on her skin.

LILLEbaby makes amazing carriers for infants and toddlers……and I'm teaming up with them plus three of my favorite mamas today.  We're showing you multiple ways to baby wear AND giving one reader a LILLEbaby carrier of their choice!

Thank you for featuring me sweet ladies! I love this carrying pack except my mini is 31lb and she is not even 2!!! I have pretty much given up and accept the fact that my kids will be strolled around. p.s. I see that you are on the FashionMama squad, what an amazing array of women, would love to be a part of it too.

I’ve never tried wearing my toddler, but I can see how appealing it would be in certain situations (like, anywhere with huge crowds!). However, I know I’ll do more babywearing when my daughter is born in October–if I could win one I’d win one to carry her around!

Id have to think it over a bit to be able to narrow it down to one carrier but I would really love to have one of the toddler carriers. my LO has outgrown her first carrier and we need a new one so I can wear her again. Embossed Teal is a lovely toddler carrier

I’m so so glad you wrote about this! My daughter, Madeline, is basically the same age as Lydia. We are experiencing the same issues- she can ride in the stroller or walk, but neither are ideal solutions. We give her piggyback rides already- which we all love, but my arms get sooo tired! The CARRYON TODDLER CARRIER – FOUR SEASONS – SILVER CLOUD looks like an ideal carrier for us!

I’ve been using my Lillebaby Airflow since 2014 and love it. I’m having my second child in October and I’m dying to get my hands on the Teal Embossed or the Complete All Seasons in Breton Stripes. My airflow is the older version with no pocket or two way straps (if that tells you how much I’m due for an upgrade)!? I hope I have a chance to finally try the new version!!??

Baby wearing is the best! The absolute best! I love it and have done it with all three of my children. Unfortunately once my children turn 2 they have usually outgrown the weight capacity of the baby carrier. I would love to try a toddler carrier with my daughter. She still asks to be carried, but our current baby carrier just cannot hold her. If I won (which would be ah-mazing) I would choose the CarryOn. The CarryOn All Seasons – Silver Cloud & the Embossed- Teal are both pretty awesome looking.

This was the first Have you ever attended a luau? This was the first I’ve EVER attended (fun fact, when we came to Aulani 5 years ago we were supposed to and it was rained out). The night before on this trip, we had some storms and I thought….oh no, round 2? But……the Hawaiian sun did it’s job and the weather for this was PERFECT. To be honest, this was not cheap. I was a little apprehensive about whether I would feel it was worth the money but…..WOW was it ever. The food was amazing, there were really fun activities for kids at the beginning and the cultural performances were phenomenal. All three of us (including not wanting to spend even more $$$ vacation Robbie) left raving about the experience. Aulani wins for us so far on this trip that I’m so glad I booked in advance (highly suggest doing this as far out from your trip dates as you can)- the luau (try night 2 or 3 of your trip so you’ve had time to adjust to the time change)- Aunty’s Beach House (this is still at limited capacity so you DO need to book in advance, I booked a session for days 2, day 3, and day 4 and we’ve enjoyed having a bit of time each day)- character dining and prix fix dinner at Makahiki (we are one big meal each vacation day people, so DON’T book these the same day, I’d do character breakfast early on your first full day….you’ll wake up early with the time change and the dinner on whichever night you AREN’T doing the luau)Already dreaming of booking another trip here.

That year involved one major teacher strike in my district, many many many jobs and gigs for both of us, minimal time off together, a whole lot of unknowns and a whole lot of stress. The Disney and Aulani team probably had no idea that they were giving us the gift of much needed peaceful time together when they invited us on a trip to this magical place. A trip that….to be honest, was beyond our means at the time. We cherished every moment. A lot has happened since then. A move, buying a house, seeing those years of hard work pay off. And now….we did it. We’re back. Lazy river here we come. TLDR? If you’re in the thick of it, I see you. We’ve been there. Family, Welcome Home……we did it. Aulani for the week.

When training for my race, I didn’t stretch or warm up enough most days and….here we are.Lesson learned. I’m 4 weeks post race (do not recommend running a 10k on a pulled muscle) and I’m……almost better. I’m learning to stretch and walk and to take better care of myself so that I can start running again REALLY soon (we’re almost there I think). For now? I’m doing recovery walks and trying to strengthen my leg. And trying to make sure I get enough protein. When I talked about Built Bars on my stories, a LOTTTTT of you raced about their Puffs. Yup, I get it. They’re AMAZING. I’ve been bringing them along on my walks (and gluten free friends….they have some great options for us).Have you ever pulled a muscle? The Zoo is close to downtown, the Safari Park is about 25 miles north. I’d suggest one day at each. They’re totally unique and both worth a visit. The Safari Park is smaller, but has REALLY unique exhibits (Walkabout Australia is my favorite).⠀2️⃣ both have some really fun and unique dining experiences that you can reserve in advance: Albert’s at the Zoo is a FANCY and fun sit down option, and The Watering Hole at Kijamii Overlook at the Safari Park is great for happy hour or a fun lunch ⠀3️⃣ there are great kids play areas at both locations, the Wildlife Explorers Base Camp area at the San Diego Zoo is brand new and absolutely amazing⠀⠀✨ Now, a bonus tip.
