How 14 years of teaching and a LOT of Stitch Fix Reviews relate…….
Those who can’t do, teach. Anyone else HATE that sentence? I’ve heard it more times than I can count over the course of my teaching career. That coupled with, “You seem really intelligent……why are you JUST a teacher?”
A little background: This my 14th year teaching in a low performing public school here in Los Angeles. And let me tell you, I teach a lot more than reading, writing and arithmetic. I teach social skills, manners, survival skills, empathy, compassion, and a sense of adventure. And let me tell you something else, I learn more than I give. I think most teachers will agree……while we entered our field to teach children……they end up teaching us. The sense of wonder? Joy? Pride in a job well done? Children demonstrate a zest for life and a passion for learning that we rarely see (or feel) as adults. We often get caught up in the mundane tasks of day to day life and lose the inspiration children find in a new story or the excitement over mastering a new concept (sometimes even the joy in the PROCESS of learning).
Last week, was a bit of a weird one for me. I taught my students during the day, and then I attended the Mom 2.0 conference in Pasadena in the afternoons and evenings. I actually spoke on a panel to a large room full of fellow influencers, and then got to attend a TON of amazing sessions as a student myself. I learned about photography, systems for managing a blog, and (just to tie it all together)……attended an intimate dinner with the team from Stitch Fix.
Now, if you’ve been around here awhile….you know how much I LOVE MY STITCH FIX REVIEWS each month (if you’re new to Stitch Fix Reviews…..check out the background on what is it and why I love it HERE). This month though? In addition to my regular Stitch Fix delivery…..I teamed up with them for a few fun things. They sent me a special Stitch Fix delivery filled with clothes for the conference (don’t worry, I’m including details here so that you can pin your favorites to your Stitch Fix wishlist on Pinterest). But now? They’re helping ME to give back to my fellow teachers for Teacher Appreciation week. So, at the bottom of this page (after you see the adorable pieces from the conference)…..be sure to enter. I’m giving away TWO Stitch Fix gift cards. One for you to keep and one to give to your favorite teacher (and if YOU are the teacher….you get to keep both)!
My fellow educators…..thank you. I appreciate you.

STITCH FIX REVIEWS: The Conference Edition
Bailey44 Ashlin Knit Midi Dress (size medium, $174): THIS DRESS. You guys know I love a great fitted sheath dress. And this one fits like a DREAM. I am so glad I kept it, it was worth every single penny.
Loveappella Tiah Knit Maxi Dress (size medium, $74): I’ve been on the hunt for a comfy sundress that I can wear day into night, and this purple one? IDEAL. I wore it to the afternoon portions of Mom 2.0 with a great pair of wedge sandals and into the night for our Stitch Fix dinner. It’s super versatile and fits beautifully.
Romolo Savi Tassel Earrings ($28): These blush earrings were perfect to pair with my sundress, and I’ve worn them a TON with a simple white tee and jean shorts….and at that price? What a steal!

Love love love that Maxi dress!!!
You sound like an amazing teacher! I know the really great teachers I had growing up left a very positive lasting impression on me that I carry with me to this day. Please keep doing what you are doing!
I love Stitch Fix! My favorite teacher is my Mom! She’s an amazing teacher at a local private school and loves teaching!
I am a middle school Spanish teacher who has a 6 week old baby! Always looking for ways to improve my wardrobe, but I have no sense of style!
I would gift the second gift card to my daughter’s pre-K teacher. My daughter is painfully shy and has come out of her shell so much due to the love and understanding of her teacher. Plus her teacher is expecting her first child this Fall and I am sure will need a new wardrobe (treat) after the baby arrives!
It would have to be at toss up between my kids’ 2 teachers. I love them both!
I’m a teacher too! Love my Stitch Fix! Inspired to be a teacher by my 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Wilcoxon.
Our kindergarten teacher!
My daughter’s pre-K teacher!
My favorite teacher is my mom! She has taught preschool for years and just recently switched over to sixth grade language arts. She’s a huge part of why I went into teaching for my own career!
I would give the gift card to my nephew’s soon-to-be- wife. She’s a teacher of special ed, just starting out and living on a shoe string, she would be so thrilled to have this. She never shops and loves her students, spends her time planning for them instead of on herself.
My son’s Kindergarten teacher.
Oddly enough it was my EMT instructors. They were both hard asses in the class and one was extremely hard on me and the other seemed to have a soft spot for me but at the end of the day they pushed us to be great in a field where we see so much tragedy and then the next minute can be helping to deliver a baby they wanted to prepare us to be tough and withstand it all. Ben, the instructor who was the toughest on me, I remember him saying to me, “I am the toughest on you because you doubt yourself more than anyone else and of anyone, in here you would be the one I would let help assist (lol) save me” that actually meant so much to me and I took that and ran with it. Took a little bit but I stopped doubting myself and now I have been able to work with some of the best Medics and have had some of the best opportunities. Really needed that confidence booster.
I would give it to the kindergarten teacher I work with.
Fab post!!
So so agree that we don’t just teach the core subjects, we teach so much more! And again, so true, we learn, learn and learn.
I taught for ten years here in England, but have stopped since having my daughter (who’s two), and I’m planning to home school her!
Thank you for being the voice of the underappreciated and underpaid teachers!
my daughter’s best friend’s mom is a great teacher, i’d give it to her
I am actually going to school to be a teacher, and so many of my professors are awesome. They are extremely invested in us to succeed. It would be hard to just choose one.
