These Red White and Blue Jello Shots will be the hit of all your patriotic parties!

One of my favorite things about summer is all the barbecues and backyard cookouts we have with friends and family. While it can be hard to get everyone together on a random weekend day, major holidays like Memorial Day and 4th of July are basically pre-scheduled for our crew to hang out. One of my favorite ways to get these holiday parties started is with unique jello shots! A little red, white, and blue go a long way to brightening up the food spread. And it doesn’t hurt that they’re super fun to eat…but adults only!

The best thing about these shots is that you have a couple presentation options, and it’s all up to you how you want to put things together. You can layer the shots like I did so each one has the whole red, white & blue look, OR if you just want to gets everything in the fridge and chilling without having to babysit the shots, you can make each “layer” and fill the shot cups with one color only. Then toss them all in a bowl together. You also have some vodka options. I went with UV Blue Raspberry for the blue layer, Three Olives vodka for white layer, and UV Cherry for the red layer. The UV vodkas are blue and red which lend themselves well to the color scheme, and they taste really good too. If you don’t drink flavored vodkas much, you could use a regular vodka for all 3 layers since the jello is already flavored. Again, your call. These shots can be as involved or as simple as you like, but not matter how you decide to whip ’em up they’ll taste awesome!

Red White and Blue Jello Shots

Prep Time: 5 hours 8 mins    Cook Time: 2 mins    Yield: about 48 shots

Ingredients:

Blue Layer

One 3 ounce box berry blue jello mix

1 cup boiling water

1/2 cup cold water

1/2 cup blue raspberry vodka

White Layer

1 envelope (1 tablespoon) unflavored gelatin powder

1/2 cup cold water

1/2 cup boiling water

1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

1/2 cup vodka

Red Layer

One 3 ounce box cherry jello mix

1 cup boiling water

1/2 cup cold water

1/2 cup cherry vodka

Equipment

48 2-ounce plastic cups with lids

Directions:

Place the plastic cups on a baking sheet so they are lined up and ready to be filled. Set aside.

Blue Layer

  1. Place the jello powder into a medium mixing bowl (preferably with a pour spout).
  2. Pour the boiling water over the jello powder while whisking constantly. Continue to whisk until the powder is completely dissolved.
  3. Add the cold water and vodka to the jello. Stir to combine.
  4. Fill each of the plastic cups 1/3 full with jello. Refrigerate the jello for 1 hour or until set and wobbly.

White Layer

  1. Place the gelatin powder in a medium mixing bowl. Pour the cold water of the powder. Give everything a quick stir and let rest so the power absorbs into the water.
  2. Pour the boiling water into the bowl and whisk to combine.
  3. Add the sweetened condensed milk and vodka. Stir to combine.
  4. Pour the jello mixture into each of the plastic cups so that they are 2/3 full. Refrigerate the jello for 1 hour or until set and wobbly.

Red Layer

  1. Place the jello powder into a medium mixing bowl (preferably with a pour spout).
  2. Pour the boiling water over the jello powder while whisking constantly. Continue to whisk until the powder is completely dissolved.
  3. Add the cold water and vodka to the jello. Stir to combine.
  4. Fill each of the plastic cups until full with jello. Refrigerate the jello for 2-3 hours or until completely set.
  5. Cover with lids and stack in a storage container in the fridge until ready to serve.
Notes:

Be sure to let each layer set up before pouring the next layer over the top. If the previous layer is not set, the liquid jello will bleed in and ruin your layered effect. You can’t rush this process. These shots can be made up to 3 days ahead of time. Just cover with the plastic up lids and store in the fridge until ready to serve.

made these today. Takes time between layers… watching a movie or something like that will fill the time. Once you pour the red mixture on don’t top them off later, it will not look like photo.. it mixes a bit into the white. (it did on one of mine) I am assuming it is because it heated the white mixture. besides that they turned out perfect!
