Looking for information about online reading programs? These online programs are great supplements for in person reading instruction and are a great tool to have in your learning tool belt!

Let's talk about online reading programs.  As a teacher, programs like these were a supplement that I always suggested to parents.  In addition to reading aloud at home together.  Technology can be a great tool to add to your own at home practices or classroom work.  Does an online program replace the benefit of reading a book with your children? Or practicing sounds and phonics skills? Not all together….but it's a great addition.

These are all online reading programs that I personally used, suggested as a classroom teacher and have tried with my own daughter.  If you are looking for some great at home options…..each of them is something I recommend!

The Best Online Reading Programs

ABC Mouse (ages 2-8): ABC Mouse is a phonics based program with both a web and app based option.  It's great for practicing sounds and blending.  There is also a free program for teachers.  I used this as an independent station in my first grade classroom.  It's a great tool to practice sounds and letter knowledge!  I'd suggest this for beginning readers or children still working on sounds.

Price: $9.95 per month, Special offer $49.95 for a year

Reading Eggs (ages 2-13): Reading Eggs is a great option for older kids who are reading fluently.  They have programs that practice letter and sound awareness, but also comprehension programs (which are harder to find).

Price: $89 for a family plan (includes up to 4 children), $9.95 a month for single child access, $59 a year for a single child account

Sign up for a Free Trial

Hooked On Phonics (ages 3-8): Hooked on Phonics is a great online reading program for….kids working on phonics (sounds and putting them together to make words).  This program comes with supplemental materials (a workbook) but can also be done as a stand alone online program.  You can use the app and computer portion with up to three kids (they each get their own account) but will receive one workbook for each membership.  This has both app and website access.

Price: $6.99 for one month, $39.99 for one year, $49.99 for lifetime access

Sign up for a 1 Month Trial for $1

Leapfrog Academy: We've talked about Leapfrog Academy for years, this app is a great option for preschoolers to early elementary.  I love that it is super kid and user friendly and practices skills that will get children kindergarten ready.  Leapfrog also makes a ton of reading tools and books (you can shop those here on Amazon) but this is a great web based option.

Price: app is free, in app pricing is $7.99 a month

Have you used any of these online reading programs? Which is your favorite?

🎉HAPPY REOPENING DAY TOONTOWN!!!!!🎉⠀ ⠀ W 🎉HAPPY REOPENING DAY TOONTOWN!!!!!🎉⠀⠀We loved visiting yesterday for a preview of this reimagined area. It’s absolutely perfect for getting your wiggles out, having a picnic and yup……..getting your Disney feels fix.⠀⠀My top recommendations when visiting this new area?⠀⠀1) mobile order from Cafe Daisy…..we loved the pizza options and the cold brew⠀2) play play play in Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard, and inside his house…..⠀3) take the time to walk through Minnie and Mickey’s houses, you’ll probably see a surprise friend or two!⠀4) absolutely yes to the picnic basket from Good Boy! Grocer. It’s a STELLAR price and a really fun experience to pick out your own snacks.⠀5) Mickey’s and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a perfect full family ride. I’d suggest trying for this earlier in the day if you can.⠀6) Keep an eye out for Pete, it’s so much fun to see him wandering the area.⠀⠀#Disneyland #Toontown #Mickey #Minnie #MMRR @disneyland @disneyparks invited guest
✨There’s something in my eye…….oh it’s j ✨There’s something in my eye…….oh it’s just pixie dust.⠀⠀When I think of Lydia’s earliest visits to Disneyland….I think of Toontown. I think of Minnie’s House and meeting Mickey and playing next to Goofy’s House. I think of the adorable landscape and the magic that the area creates for the youngest and the young at heart.⠀⠀✨Today we visited Toontown for a sneak peek before it’s reopening tomorrow…..and yup, that pixie dust definitely got in my eye. More than once.⠀⠀Toontown is even more magical than it was (partially thanks to the addition of a cold brew on the menu at Cafe Daisy (good call Disney food and beverage team). ⠀⠀✨My favorite moments from today’s sneak preview?⠀1️⃣ we saw Pete. He’s even better than I’d hoped.2️⃣ I love love love the food options in Toontown! Highlights: the picnic basket snack option Good Boy! Or the no way I’m paying for that person?⠀For the record, there is one of each of us in this house (feel free to guess who I am, ha).⠀❤️Over on stories, we are talking money and what people pay for different things. There are people cheering you on…..and you don’t even realize it.I learned a LOT during the 7 months of training for this race. I learned that I should stretch and warm up (thanks pulled muscle for that life lesson), I learned that small progress over time leads to achieving big goals. I learned that sunshine and being outside makes me a happier person. I learned that I’m more of an athlete than I thought I was. But most of all? I learned……there are a whole lot of people in your cheering section and you might not even know they’re sitting there. After I pulled this muscle, I was amazed by the sweet and kind messages while I tried to prepare to run my first 10k with an injury. But NOTHING prepared me for the ovwhelming amount of kindness and support that flooded into my inbox when I crossed the finish line. From the early morning you can do this messages to the ones that came in throughout the race to the inspiring amount of support as I iced my pulled muscle…..it brought me to tears. And the amazing thing? When Jennifer and Lashawn and I found each other at the finish line….they said the same thing. It’s not just me. We all have a cheering section. And wow, do they show up when you may not be expecting them.Got a big goal? Working on something new? Share it in the comments. I’d love to join your support team.#medalmonday #rundisney
