On the hunt for chapter books for kids? These are 23 options for books series that your child will love!

Now that Lydia has moved from picture books to chapter books……we're in a whole new reading world and I'm loving it.  Don't get me wrong, I love love love classic pictures books…..from Cinderella books to tried and true classics to interactive books our bookshelves are filled with stunning books that we love and books that we will still enjoy.  But there's something about diving into a chapter book and getting lost in a longer story.  And my absolute favorite? Series chapter books for kids.  I have the best childhood memories of sticking a great series up by my bed and reading under the covers with a flashlight for weeks on end.  I got lost in the pages of a great Roald Dahl book or as I followed the Wilder from the Little House in the Big Woods to the Prairie.

This book list is filled with 23 suggestions from our library along with suggestions you guys gave me on Instagram stories for your favorite series chapter books for kids.  I ordered a few new ones based on your favorites and can't wait to check them all out with Lydia.

23 Series Chapter Books for Kids

Shop all Series Chapter Books for Kids:

  1. Junie B. Jones: These are Lydia's current fav, she's OBSESSED.  We ordered the full box set of all 28 books and she's more than halfway through them.  Junie B is a feisty (ha) kindergarten with a pretty silly take on the world.
  2. The Little House Series:  Did you read the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder when you were little? These books are based on the real life of the author, and they're an amazing way to help our kids explore life from another time.  I'd suggest these for third grade and up.
  3. Ramona: The Ramona series was one of my personal favorites growing up.  Beverly Cleary's tales of Ramona and her older sister Beezus are funny, sweet and oh so relatable.  And the best part? Ramona did girl power all along.  She's a total powerhouse!
  4. The Dog Man Series:  This series from the creator of Captain Underpants is WILDLY popular.  This positive series is lead by a character who is…..half man and half dog.  He fights crime too!
  5. Dork Diaries: This series is perfect for ages nine to eleven and follows the adventures of Nikki Maxwell as she navigates middle school and all that comes with it.
  6. Harry Potter: Who doesn't love Harry Potter?  This is one of my favorite options for chapter books for kids series.  We all know it's a little dark, so proceed with caution with sensitive or younger kids.
  7. Geronimo Stilton: Got a fantasy loving kiddo? The adventures of Geronimo Stilton are the BEST, this rodent takes you on treasure hunts, into haunted houses, and more (perfect for children ages 6 to 10).
  8. Diary of a Wimpy Kid:  This series? A major hit.  Kids LOVE the stories of Greg and his journey through middle school.  I'd suggest it for children ages seven to eleven.
  9. The Magic Treehouse Series:  One of the most popular series of chapter books for kids.  EVER.  This series has a TON of books and tells the story of a set of siblings who discover….a magic treehouse that transports them to adventure after adventure.
  10. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Chronicles of Narnia (the entire series that includes the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) are great middle grade chapter books.  They're intricate, full of adventure, and bonus? The movies are great, so fun to watch after finishing the books.  These classics tell the stories of four siblings who find a portal to a fantasy filled world (Narnia)through…..their wardrobe.
  11. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: This popular middle grade book series was just confirmed as a Disney Plus coming soon series, so standby for it to blow up even more! The series follows Percy (a demigod) through all his adventures.  It's a TON of fun to read!
  12. The Boxcar Children: Did you read this series as a child? It was first released in 1942 and is still as popular as ever.  The series follows a group of children as they solve mysteries and is a really fun glimpse into another time!
  13. Princess in Black: This series is a total favorite in our household and proof that princesses can also be pretty hardcore.  I love that the princess in these stories is the hero, and a pretty amazing one at that!
  14. Disney Princess Beginnings: A TON of you recommended these books and can you believe we'd never heard of them? I ordered a couple and Lydia is so excited to start them.  These chapter books for kids are perfect for Disney fans, they tell the stories of each Disney Princess as a young child.
  15. The Never Girls: Another new to us series (I also ordered it, ha) sounds perfect for ages six to nine or ten and tells the stories of four girls who wish to visit Neverland……..
  16. Henry and Mudge: This series is a classic and for good reason, it's such a fun read! These books tell the stories of Henry and his dog Mudge.  They're sweet, entertaining and perfect for lower grade independent readers.
  17. Dragon Masters: Dragon Masters are ideal starter books, they're specifically created to help kids bridge from picture books to chapter books.  They're a ton of fun to read (tell the adventures of a boy who adventures through a land of magic and adventure) and perfect for younger kids.
  18. Zoe and Sassafras: This easy to read chapter book series is a PERFECT starter for newly independent readers.  It shares the adventures of Zoe and her cat, Sassafras and has great illustrations!
  19. A to Z Mysteries: These adorable stories are meant to be read in…..alphabetical order and tell the stories of three kids solving fun mysteries!
  20. Mercy Watson: If you've got an animal loving kiddo, Mercy Watson books are PERFECT! Mercy Watson is a lovable pig who goes on some pretty fun adventures!
  21. Dory Fantasmagory: Dory? She's the youngest in her family, and her older siblings won't play with the baby.  Her adventures? What Dory comes up with on her own, and they're hysterical!
  22. Fly Guy: This popular series is comic-book esq and a ton of fun to read.  Who doesn't love the adventures of……a boy and a fly?
  23. Land of Stories: I love love love this series.  It merges classic fairy tales and modern fiction.  A brother and sister end up in….the Land of Stories where they interact with all their favorite characters.

We also like the “Press Start” series. They are somewhere between a chapter book and a comic book, part of Scholastic’s Branchers line and based on video game tropes.

….and also why are we commenting negatively abou ….and also why are we commenting negatively about people’s appearances in 2023?Double also: if the worst thing people on the interwebs can say about me is that they don’t like my smile…..then I feel pretty good about what type of person I’ve chosen to be.
💕Because we all want our kids to soar………⠀⠀So fitting right? Elvis named this plane after his daughter. And all I’ve been thinking about throughout our St Jude experience…..is how certain things truly bond all of us. Certain things cross economic barriers and continent and language differences. Parenthood is one of those. It’s a universal experience. And I think whether we are parents or role models or aunties or friends……we all know what it’s like to dream and hope on behalf of a child in your life.⠀⠀In 2012, when I was newly married and not yet a parent one of my students was diagnosed with cancer. Without revealing details about her or her family, I think it’s important to recognize that economic barriers prevented what should have been an earlier diagnosis. It was one of many times I was reminded during my time with the amazing humans in my classrooms that…..we do NOT all have the same access or experiences in life. That student and her family were one of the miracle stories. In fact, when she came back to class, she complained about missing soccer games at recess and fell right back in with the rest in a way that to this day brings joyful tears to my eyes. ⠀⠀I said this on my stories during my trip, but…..I didn’t realize until this experience that families at St Jude NEVER receive a bill. Ever. No matter what. That this access gives families hope during their darkest days.⠀⠀I’m going to be teaming up with St. Jude to do a fun challenge that will hopefully inspire y’all to support them too. Let’s just say that…..for this scared of heights, refuses to take my feet off the ground theme park girlie……I’m going to making the ultimate sacrifices.⠀⠀What rides would you want to see me go on in support of St Jude? (be kind, I’m literally TERRIFIED of any and all rides that have a height limit). You know they REALLY moved me if I’m even thinking of doing this! ⠀⠀@stjude #stjudeambassador
💕Double tap if you know what the Peabody is fam 💕Double tap if you know what the Peabody is famous for…..so many of you guessed it in stories last night!🦆The Peabody Hotel is famous for their duck parade. And we got to see it as a part of Day 1 of the St Jude Content Creator Summit. I’m in Memphis to learn all about how St Jude is doing life saving research to fight and cure childhood cancers.💕Real talk: I get to do a lot of fun things because of this little app but projects like this? Are an absolute honor. Did you know that patients at St Jude NEVER RECEIVE A BILL? What a gift to families in crisis. I’m so happy to share this next couple of days here in Memphis with y’all and to support such an important organization.🦆Now, swipe to see the ducks. @stjude #stjudeambassador
She IS Ariel. We saw it. It’s a gift. This s She IS Ariel. We saw it. It’s a gift. This stunning movie shows a princess who is absolutely……royal. Graceful. Brave and……the perfect mermaid. Years ago, I was sitting in the theater during the live action Lion King premiere just days after the Little Mermaid casting was announced. And in walked Halle Bailey. This young girl and all I could think was……how much weight of the world was on her shoulders. The room paused. And people everywhere stood. They applauded her and smiled and I thought…..she really is a princess. Halle, you are the epitome of royalty. Thank you for sharing your shine with the world.I would love to encourage you to follow these amazing creators who have been shining themselves and sharing a ton of special Little Mermaid experiences:@jenniferborget @erikaenchanted@davidvaughn@_the_adventurous_rjay@colormemagic@melizzablackLydia’s, Robbie’s and my full review of the film will be on the blog Monday morning. How excited are you for the film? Who is your favorite Little Mermaid character? #littlemermaid #colormemermaid #ariel
Mother’s Day Memories: Starting to wonder how ma Mother’s Day Memories: Starting to wonder how many more years we have of this family tradition before SOMEONE becomes a full blown teen / tween and the Happiest Place on Earth is a whole different vibeWe: hugged our favorite characters, danced every time mom got a coffee (swipe for that excellent content), Lydia and Robbie rode all the mountains, walked 22,000 steps on Saturday alone, and Robbie finally got to see Toontown for the first time since it’s reopening. We slept like rocks on the comfy beds at the JW Marriott (it was such a kind gesture when they offered to host us for Mother’s day weekend), I drank my morning coffee in their beautiful garden, and loved that it was a quick 15 minute walk to the Disneyland gates. If you are looking for a luxury hotel experience near Disneyland, I highly recommend. They have great dining options, a Starbucks in the lobby each morning, and a lovely pool. This was a perfect treat yourself location.Have you done a holiday at Disneyland? My favorites (in no particular order): Halloween (Oogie Boogie is the best), Holiday Time and Mother’s Day……each has it’s own unique flavor.@MarriottBonvoy #MarriottBonvoy @jwmarriottanaheim #jwmarriottanaheim #MarriottBonvoyMoments Hosted
