It’s time friends.  I’m putting my sweatpants and my favorite jeans away…..and putting fun clothes for events and special occasions back in my wardrobe.  I have to be honest, it’s been a minute and all of sudden my social calendar is fuller than it’s been for a long time.  My extroverted heart is happy, but my closet isn’t prepared and…..I was dreading the dry cleaning bill (why are all the fun clothes always dry clean only?!?!).

Now, this isn’t my first go around with clothing rental subscriptions.  In fact, I tried another one years ago and failed miserably.  I constantly forgot to return the items and was charged for buying things I didn’t even like.  So, I was a little apprehensive.  But, I heard RAVE reviews about Nuuly and figured, I could always cancel if it didn’t work for me.  RIGHT?

Well, I stand before you a convert.  This Nuuly Review is after multiple months of use, and…..I’m still just as in love with my Nuuly subscription as I was after the first box (perhaps because I haven’t once forgotten to return my items, ha)!

Nuuly Review: Is it Worth the Money?

Let’s talk WHY.  For me? I love to play with fashion.  I love a great statement piece.  But the truth is…..how often do I really wear a pleather dress or a fancy dress for a special event? I’ve always been of the mindset when shopping for new clothes that if I can’t think of at least 5 places to wear them…..that I shouldn’t make the investment.

With lots of fun things coming up, I want fun clothes but……not necessarily fun clothes that I’ll wear over and over again.  So the ideal of a clothing rental service? A good thing for my clothing budget (and it’s more sustainable right?).

Now, let’s get to the meat of this Nuuly Review.  WHY Nuuly and what makes Nuuly clothing options different than any other clothing subscription service?  For me? It’s all about the fact that they carry brands that fit my personal style.  If you love free people, urban outfitters, anthropolgie, farm rio and selkie……then this is a great fit for you!

1. How it Works: So how does it actually work? You’ll pay $88 and that starts your Nuuly subscription.  Then you’ll be able to select 6 items (there are dresses, pants, jackets, tops and any piece counts towards that total number of items).   You can order bonus items for an additional fee.  They’ll arrive about 5 to 7 business days later in a reusable bag with a return shipping label.  You’ll save the shipping bag and label and send back at the end of the month (don’t worry, you’ll get a reminder).
2. The Most Popular Items and How to Get Them: Nuuly is constantly adding new items, but there are definitely some items and brands that are the most rented (selkie for example).  So this? A few tricks for how to rent the most popular brands.  Check often (especially leading up to your return window and when planning the next month).  Anything you see that you love? Add it to your closet using the hanger icon.  Everything will be waiting for you to rent when you’ve started the return process and are ready to rent items for the next month .
3. Read the Reviews: Unsure about items for your next box? READ THE REVIEWS.  User reviews of items are a treasure trove of information.  People include details about pieces on their body types, comfort of wear, even pictures.  I find items all the time that I would not have otherwise tried, and it’s a great way to step out of my comfort zone fashion wise!
4. Once You’re In, You’re In: Of note and important info to have….once you’ve ordered for the month….that’s it.  No switching if you spot new styles, no size exchanges.  This is the one negative thing I have to say in this Nuuly review.  The Nuuly order you place is what you’ll get, and keep for the whole month.  For me? I always expect that all 6 items in my nuuly box won’t be a home run or a perfect fit.  One won’t fit or I just won’t like it….but if I have 4 or 5 pieces I love for the $88 flat monthly fee? It’s a pretty great deal!
5. Shipping Time: In my experience, shipping both to my home and then using the prepaid return label to ship BACK to Nuuly has been smooth and fairly quick.  I usually receive my nuuly bag with the month’s items within 5 business days of ordering.  And for returning? I’ll get an alert once UPS has scanned my return label, and then I can order new items for the next month.
6. Inventory: The inventory is the main selling point for ME when it comes to Nuuly.  Different clothing rental companies have different focuses and inventories.  For me? Rent the Runway is a great option for formal wear.  For everyday life pieces and trying out the latest trends, cute dresses, and fun pieces for events that aren’t fancy?  Nuuly has a great stock.  If you like Anthropology, Free People,  Selkie, Farm Rio……this will be your new favorite.
7. Buy at a Discount: But what if you fall in love with an item? Ha, yup, this has happened to me more than once already.  You do have the option of keeping any item from your order (at a discounted price).  This is a great way to give pieces a test run before you keep them forever.
8. How Often Do They Stock New Items? I wondered this too.  How often would I see new things on the Nuuly website?  I have to say, I see new items every time I log in.  Sometimes they’re new to the site, and sometimes they’re new to me or items that weren’t in stock in my size the last time I was searching for things.  My suggestion? Always check the new arrivals area, and when you see things you’re interested in? Save them to your closet for easy ordering.
9. Can You Order Extra Items? Can’t narrow it down? Or have a trip coming up and you’d like more than 6 pieces?  You can absolutely order bonus items. Bonus items are priced at $18 each and you can add up to two bonus items to any Nuuly order (a one time addition or you can do this regularly).  It’s totally up to you if you want to buy them (same as your first six items).

So, the overall thoughts I have for this Nuuly review? For me? This clothing rental service is worth every penny.  I love trying whimsical pieces for events or even family photos that I probably won’t get enough use out of to purchase at full price.  I love that if I DO fall in love with an item, I can buy it.

This is a seriously great solution to constantly buying fast fashion pieces to follow trends or spending a TON on high quality items at a higher price point that you may not love in a few years or that you may want for a particular occasion.  I also love that I have the ability to pause the service at any time.  So if I have a month when I won’t be needing fun pieces? I’m not paying.
