The Big Apple: A New York Travel Guide

Dreaming of a trip to the Big Apple? This New York Travel Guide will help you plan the perfect NYC getaway!

Thank you to the Lotte New York Palace for hosting our New York vacation.

Dreaming of a trip to the Big Apple? This New York Travel Guide will help you plan the perfect NYC getaway!Oh New York.  There's something amazing about the energy in New York City.  It brings up fantasies of Sex and the City, great style, and a glamorous lifestyle…..right? I think every woman on earth dreams of spending a week in New York, enjoying great food and doing some shopping.

When I found out earlier this year that one of my favorite blogging conferences would be during summer vacation in New York City….I jumped at the chance to head back to one of my favorite cities with my friend Kendall (a girls' trip was like a dream come true after all our family vacations).  I spent five days, and four nights exploring the city…..and I wanted to share some of my must do, must see, and must eat suggestions.
Dreaming of a trip to the Big Apple? This New York Travel Guide will help you plan the perfect NYC getaway!

Where to Stay:

Lotte New York Palace: Warning, a few nights at the Lotte New York Palace and you won't want to go home.  This stunning New York icon is luxury perfected.  Located in the heart of Midtown, this hotel just LOOKS like old world New York.  From the courtyard where they filmed Gossip Girl (yes, Serena LIVED in the Lotte New York Palace on the show) to the stunning lobby…..this hotel is just beautiful.  Our views of the New York skyline were unreal, I woke up each morning in my ridiculously comfortable bed and couldn't believe that I was THERE.

My favorite part about the Lotte New York Palace though? Wasn't the views or the fancy rooms (although those were amazing)….it was the customer service.  From hailing taxi cabs to impeccable turn down service to amazing suggestions for coffee shops…..the men and women that run the hotel are truly out of the ordinary.  They turn a stunning, luxury hotel into a once in a lifetime experience (although it won't be once in a lifetime for me, I'm already making plans to go back)!

Where to Eat:

Villard: Villard is an amazing eatery inside the Lotte New York Palace and their BRUNCH? May be the best in New York City.  Order the French Toast.

La Colombe: I discovered this adorable cafe between meetings in Soho while fighting exhaustion from getting off a red eye.  The lattes are amazing.  There are a TON of New York locations and bonus? They just opened one out here in Lala land!

Lauduree: This french bakery is all over the tabloids, it's a celebrity favorite, and there's good reason…..their macaroons are to DIE FOR.  The Soho location is an adorable cafe, perfect for lunch or a fancy tea.  It's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of a busy day in the city.

Rosa Mexicano:Delicious. Easy. Mexican food.  If you've got a group dinner and you're craving margaritas….this is the perfect spot.  Their tacos are DELISH, and they have super fun drinks!

Morell Wine Bar and Cafe: My last night in the city, I met two of my girlfriends for dinner.  We spent our single girl years together in LA.  Now we're all married, and they both live in New York.  This adorable wine bar was perfect for a long catch up session.  It's smack dab in the middle of Rockefeller Center, has amazing wine and a killer cheese plate.

Shake Shack: THIS IS A MUST VISIT.  This New York institution is the East Coast version of In N' Out.  We ate at the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Park.  The burgers were AMAZING….and the milkshakes? I got the red velvet (it's a seasonal special)…..and have been craving another ever since.  There are a couple locations, but this one has a TON of outdoor seating, and super cute lights everywhere.

What to Do:

There are tons of amazing museums and monuments in New York, and they're MUST VISITS.  But I wanted to share a few off the beaten path activities from my trip that I would do again and again and again.

Bite Beauty Lab: A bunch of you loved watching my visit to the Bite Beauty Lab on Instagram stories.  Bite Beauty is amazing cosmetics line sold nationwide….but in Soho they have an actual beauty lab.  You can make an appointment to work with an expert and create your OWN perfect for your skin tone custom lip products.  It's so much fun!

Birchbox Store: You all know what Birchbox is, right? A monthly subscription box that allows you to try some of the latest and greatest beauty products.  Well, they have a storefront in Soho.  You can shop all the lines they work with AND you can make your own custom Birchbox.  They also offer in store beauty services!

Trunk Club Clubhouse: I'm obsessed with Trunk Club (the personalized styling service connected to Nordstrom).  While you can enjoy Trunk Club anywhere (and have a Trunk delivered to your house for try-on)…….Trunk Club also has a handful of Clubhouses in major cities.  You get to meet with a stylist in person, and they'll pull amazing suggestions based on your needs and budget.  The New York Clubhouse is stunning, and a little dangerous to your bank account.

Concerts at Madison Square Park: During the warm summer months, there is an amazing concert series at Madison Square Park (and they have kids' concerts during the day).  Time your Shake Shack visit so that you can bring a blanket, and enjoy your milkshake while humming along to live music.

I love NYC. If they didn’t have harsh winters I’d want to live there. Yes, the shack shack has great burgers! That was our last stop before walking back and packing up to head home on our last visit. Glad you had an amazing time. The hotel looks AMAZING!

Did you hit any iconic sites too? Each time we go back we visit more & more sites, endless beauty in this big city.

I have been wanting to visit New York for so long. My daughter in law was born and raised there. She and I are going to go sometime in the near future. This hotel looks awesome. I am so happy you got to do this with a good friend.

….and also why are we commenting negatively abou ….and also why are we commenting negatively about people’s appearances in 2023?Double also: if the worst thing people on the interwebs can say about me is that they don’t like my smile…..then I feel pretty good about what type of person I’ve chosen to be.
💕Because we all want our kids to soar………⠀⠀So fitting right? Elvis named this plane after his daughter. And all I’ve been thinking about throughout our St Jude experience…..is how certain things truly bond all of us. Certain things cross economic barriers and continent and language differences. Parenthood is one of those. It’s a universal experience. And I think whether we are parents or role models or aunties or friends……we all know what it’s like to dream and hope on behalf of a child in your life.⠀⠀In 2012, when I was newly married and not yet a parent one of my students was diagnosed with cancer. Without revealing details about her or her family, I think it’s important to recognize that economic barriers prevented what should have been an earlier diagnosis. It was one of many times I was reminded during my time with the amazing humans in my classrooms that…..we do NOT all have the same access or experiences in life. That student and her family were one of the miracle stories. In fact, when she came back to class, she complained about missing soccer games at recess and fell right back in with the rest in a way that to this day brings joyful tears to my eyes. ⠀⠀I said this on my stories during my trip, but…..I didn’t realize until this experience that families at St Jude NEVER receive a bill. Ever. No matter what. That this access gives families hope during their darkest days.⠀⠀I’m going to be teaming up with St. Jude to do a fun challenge that will hopefully inspire y’all to support them too. Let’s just say that…..for this scared of heights, refuses to take my feet off the ground theme park girlie……I’m going to making the ultimate sacrifices.⠀⠀What rides would you want to see me go on in support of St Jude? (be kind, I’m literally TERRIFIED of any and all rides that have a height limit). You know they REALLY moved me if I’m even thinking of doing this! ⠀⠀@stjude #stjudeambassador
💕Double tap if you know what the Peabody is fam 💕Double tap if you know what the Peabody is famous for…..so many of you guessed it in stories last night!🦆The Peabody Hotel is famous for their duck parade. And we got to see it as a part of Day 1 of the St Jude Content Creator Summit. I’m in Memphis to learn all about how St Jude is doing life saving research to fight and cure childhood cancers.💕Real talk: I get to do a lot of fun things because of this little app but projects like this? Are an absolute honor. Did you know that patients at St Jude NEVER RECEIVE A BILL? What a gift to families in crisis. I’m so happy to share this next couple of days here in Memphis with y’all and to support such an important organization.🦆Now, swipe to see the ducks. @stjude #stjudeambassador
She IS Ariel. We saw it. It’s a gift. This s She IS Ariel. We saw it. It’s a gift. This stunning movie shows a princess who is absolutely……royal. Graceful. Brave and……the perfect mermaid. Years ago, I was sitting in the theater during the live action Lion King premiere just days after the Little Mermaid casting was announced. And in walked Halle Bailey. This young girl and all I could think was……how much weight of the world was on her shoulders. The room paused. And people everywhere stood. They applauded her and smiled and I thought…..she really is a princess. Halle, you are the epitome of royalty. Thank you for sharing your shine with the world.I would love to encourage you to follow these amazing creators who have been shining themselves and sharing a ton of special Little Mermaid experiences:@jenniferborget @erikaenchanted@davidvaughn@_the_adventurous_rjay@colormemagic@melizzablackLydia’s, Robbie’s and my full review of the film will be on the blog Monday morning. How excited are you for the film? Who is your favorite Little Mermaid character? #littlemermaid #colormemermaid #ariel
Mother’s Day Memories: Starting to wonder how ma Mother’s Day Memories: Starting to wonder how many more years we have of this family tradition before SOMEONE becomes a full blown teen / tween and the Happiest Place on Earth is a whole different vibeWe: hugged our favorite characters, danced every time mom got a coffee (swipe for that excellent content), Lydia and Robbie rode all the mountains, walked 22,000 steps on Saturday alone, and Robbie finally got to see Toontown for the first time since it’s reopening. We slept like rocks on the comfy beds at the JW Marriott (it was such a kind gesture when they offered to host us for Mother’s day weekend), I drank my morning coffee in their beautiful garden, and loved that it was a quick 15 minute walk to the Disneyland gates. If you are looking for a luxury hotel experience near Disneyland, I highly recommend. They have great dining options, a Starbucks in the lobby each morning, and a lovely pool. This was a perfect treat yourself location.Have you done a holiday at Disneyland? My favorites (in no particular order): Halloween (Oogie Boogie is the best), Holiday Time and Mother’s Day……each has it’s own unique flavor.@MarriottBonvoy #MarriottBonvoy @jwmarriottanaheim #jwmarriottanaheim #MarriottBonvoyMoments Hosted
