From runway to mom way, how to wear mule shoes in real life…………

My husband isn’t exactly up on the latest fall outfit trends (understatement of the year).  So last week, I was packing my new pair of mule shoes and he yelled…..”OMG the back of your shoes is missing!” “Aren’t your feet going to get cold?!?”  You have to laugh, right?  The best part, is that I was a little apprehensive of the whole mule shoes trend too.  Did they look awkward? How could you ACTUALLY wear them in the fall or winter?  I sort of imagined them being the type of shoe that gathered dust in my closet.

So, I can admit when I’m wrong.  I’m totally addicted to mule shoes.  I wear them A LOT.  From work wear to date night or girls night out wear…..I feel like they’re a mature version of heels (and don’t totally kill my feet).  In fact, at last count…..I own four pairs (and these adorable leopard mules from Fashionable are my latest addition to the mule shoes family).

From Runway to Mom Way: Mule Shoes

So let’s talk REAL life fashion.  As much as I’d love to be wearing stunning heels and pretty dresses all day…..those are reserved for date nights, holiday parties (stay tuned for a fun holiday dresses 2017 series — cause when I do dress up, I cherish every second), and baby showers.  I’m pretty sure most of us are looking for easy to wear, casual clothes that we can get a ton of use out of…..RIGHT?  Enter From Runway to Mom Way.  I’m taking a bunch of fall trends, and sharing how to wear them in everyday regular life.  This edition? I’m sharing three simple tips for styling mule shoes.

Tips for Styling Mule Shoes

1. Make them your statement piece.  Pair a fun print pair (like these) with simple basic pieces.  I’ve worn these super comfortable leopard mules with a plain black t shirt dress, these great fitting jeans, and with black pants and a simple top to work.
2. Think proportion.  Mules tend to be lower heeled…….so think about what you’re wearing WITH them.  I wouldn’t wear them with a super long tunic or a slouchy sweater.  They tend to look best with simple bottoms or a more streamlined top.
3. Want to layer up? Instead of wearing them with heavy pants, try wearing them with tights. A cute fall look? Try mules, tights and a great sweater dress!
