Can you believe it’s already holiday dresses season? This pink velvet dress is the one I fell in love with and talked about for WEEKS…..and I finally went back and pulled the trigger!
So, I totally blame you guys for pulling the trigger on this pink velvet dress. This dress originally came as a part of my Trunk Club delivery in August. I felt like a total genius for planning in advance. I knew we had holiday parties to attend this year, and I’m notoriously unprepared for them ALWAYS. Ask me for a great pair of jeans or sneakers and I can pull ten of each out of my closet….but at this point in my life? I’m not exactly stocking a million holiday dresses.
But, I knew that I needed a few THIS year. So I asked for a few velvet dress options. I’m not going to lie, when I pulled this pink velvet dress out of the box…..I fell in love. In fact, I spent the next two days asking you guys on instagram stories if I should keep this dress. I asked four times. You guys answered everytime and told me it was stunning, and to keep it.
Well, practicality took over. I looked at the price tag ($200) and felt like I couldn’t keep it. It was too pricey for something I’d only wear a few times. So I returned it. Two days after, I received save the dates for THREE events that this dress would have been perfect for (a winter wedding, a ballet performance, and a department party for my husband’s graduate school). THREE? I mean, come on. I knew the dress was also available at Nordstrom…..and even considered ordering it. But still, the $200.

Cue my trip to visit my family last month. Remember how I (miracle) booked off a few hours for myself? I ran to the mall that I worked at growing up, and did a little shopping at Nordstrom. Well, as I was LEAVING…..I watched a girl of similar build walking out of the store with her purchases. They were hanging in clear garment bags (I’m assuming she had gotten them altered — since Nordstrom offers free alterations on all it’s items)……and as she leaned to hang them in her car…..THERE IT WAS! MY DRESS!
That was it. I went right on back in, found it in my size, tried it on again, and bought it. And I’m glad I did.
Holiday Dresses: Pink Velvet Dress
Here are my thoughts on holiday dresses: there are two categories. Wear one season or wear for years to come. Now, there was a time in my life I was a wear one season top of shopper. I wanted super trendy items that I knew I wouldn’t want to wear the NEXT year. But where am I now? I want flattering, high quality pieces that are worth investing in. And this pink velvet dress? Is 100% an investment piece. It’s worth every penny and it’s probably THE most flattering dress I’ve worn in years (in addition to THE T SHIRT DRESS that I rave about every week).
The color? So flattering, and not necessarily a trend that will go next year. It’s timeless, and so is the simple wrap shape. MY favorite part? This wrap dress is so easily adjusted, it can be worn through life changes. Gain or lose weight? Pregnant? ADJUST THE WRAP. Want to dress it up for a very formal occasion? Fancier stud earrings and sparkling heels. Want to wear it to a more casual event? Closed toe wedges and larger earrings. The way I’m wearing it here? Is how I plan to wear it to my husband’s graduate school holiday event on campus at USC. Simple closed toed heels and fun earrings.

Gorgeous dress! I love velvet and the color is amazing on you. I have a long velvet jacket that I used to wear all the time… I’m so happy to see velvet coming back into style.
Aw thanks Carolyn! Me too, I still have all my old pieces!
How fun!! I love velvet pieces and it looks great. Not a mama, but I would still wear it 😉
