Going Home: Family Activities in Marin County

Planning a trip to Marin County? We're sharing our favorite family activities!

Planning a trip to Marin County? We're sharing our favorite family activities!

We just returned from a trip to Marin County (where I grew up).  This special part of the San Francisco Bay Area is directly across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, and now that Lydia is a little older…..I love taking her to all my favorite Family Activities in Marin County.  While there are some fun, new activities in Marin…..some of these suggestions are the same fun things I did with my family growing up in Marin County.  And Lydia loves them just as much as I did!

We loved driving all around my City by the Bay….and did it in style on this trip.  While up north, I test drove the Kia Niro.  This hybrid SUV crossover was PERFECT for family road trips, we got killer gas mileage and it had WAY more space than my sedan.  Stay tuned, because this car is now on my must own list.

Family Activities in Marin County

Bay Area Discovery Museum: The Bay Area Discovery Museum is our go to stop every time we are in Marin.  It's at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge and has a TON of fun kids activities.  Housed inside of Fort Baker, the Museum has a ton of indoor and outdoor play areas.  From art projects to some of the coolest play structures I've ever seen to a stellar cafe, it's the perfect place to spend an afternoon.  Parking is free and plentiful.

Marin County Fair: If you're in Marin late June or early July….the Marin County Fair is a must visit.  It's the perfect mid-size fair with tons of great food, killer music, and rides galore.

Marine Mammal Center: Some of my favorite childhood memories are at the Marine Mammal Center.  This amazing organization rescues and rehabilitates marine animals with the goal of releasing them.  You can visit the animals as they are being treated, and it's a ton of fun to learn about the process of caring for them!

Wildcare: If you're on the search for more fun animal spots, Wildcare is also an animal rescue center and a great place to see owls, squirrels, deer and more.  They also have a cute little museum area!

China Camp State Beach: China Camp is one of my favorite smaller Northern California beaches.  Besides the beach itself, you can visit China Camp Village, a small museum that walks visitors through the history of China Camp while it was a thriving shrimping village in the 1880s.

Imagination Park:  Housed in my hometown of San Anselmo, Imagination Park is a really fun local park that pays tribute to all the amazing films Lucasfilm has created in Marin County (you can see my IGTV tour of the park HERE).

Marin County Mart Concerts:  During the summer months the Marin Country Mart has concerts on Fridays, and family movies under the stars on Wednesdays.  Both are free.  Grab food from one of the many places to eat (Three Twins Ice Cream is my top recommendation), and enjoy!

Are you planning any FAMILY VACATIONS?  If so, be sure to check out our city guides to SANTA MONICA, SAN DIEGO, MONTEREY, DISNEYLAND, COLUMBIA and Los Angeles!

🎉HAPPY REOPENING DAY TOONTOWN!!!!!🎉⠀ ⠀ W 🎉HAPPY REOPENING DAY TOONTOWN!!!!!🎉⠀⠀We loved visiting yesterday for a preview of this reimagined area. It’s absolutely perfect for getting your wiggles out, having a picnic and yup……..getting your Disney feels fix.⠀⠀My top recommendations when visiting this new area?⠀⠀1) mobile order from Cafe Daisy…..we loved the pizza options and the cold brew⠀2) play play play in Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard, and inside his house…..⠀3) take the time to walk through Minnie and Mickey’s houses, you’ll probably see a surprise friend or two!⠀4) absolutely yes to the picnic basket from Good Boy! Grocer. It’s a STELLAR price and a really fun experience to pick out your own snacks.⠀5) Mickey’s and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a perfect full family ride. I’d suggest trying for this earlier in the day if you can.⠀6) Keep an eye out for Pete, it’s so much fun to see him wandering the area.⠀⠀#Disneyland #Toontown #Mickey #Minnie #MMRR @disneyland @disneyparks invited guest
✨There’s something in my eye…….oh it’s j ✨There’s something in my eye…….oh it’s just pixie dust.⠀⠀When I think of Lydia’s earliest visits to Disneyland….I think of Toontown. I think of Minnie’s House and meeting Mickey and playing next to Goofy’s House. I think of the adorable landscape and the magic that the area creates for the youngest and the young at heart.⠀⠀✨Today we visited Toontown for a sneak peek before it’s reopening tomorrow…..and yup, that pixie dust definitely got in my eye. More than once.⠀⠀Toontown is even more magical than it was (partially thanks to the addition of a cold brew on the menu at Cafe Daisy (good call Disney food and beverage team). ⠀⠀✨My favorite moments from today’s sneak preview?⠀1️⃣ we saw Pete. He’s even better than I’d hoped.2️⃣ I love love love the food options in Toontown! Highlights: the picnic basket snack option Good Boy! Grocers, the cold brew and a delicious gluten free fold over pizza (regular looked great too)3️⃣ the new play areas are amazing! Goofy’s How to Play Area is phenomenal and filled with a ton of new interactions. ⠀Happy reopening Toontown. Can’t wait to see you again real soon. ⠀⠀Have you visited Toontown? Are you planning to come see all updates?⠀⠀#Disneyland #Toontown #Mickey #Minnie #MMRR @disneyland @disneyparks invited guest
Remember when I would only wear black bathing suit Remember when I would only wear black bathing suits or cover ups so that I could hide as much as possible? Here’s to taking up all the space I deserve. Now, which is your favorite?
✈️ Out of curiosity…..are you a pay for the ✈️ Out of curiosity…..are you a pay for the wifi on the plane person? Or the no way I’m paying for that person?⠀For the record, there is one of each of us in this house (feel free to guess who I am, ha).⠀❤️Over on stories, we are talking money and what people pay for different things. We’re making this a regular little weekly coffee chat.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀☕️So, five of you will get a coffee on me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Want to join in?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀1) like this post⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀2) answer the polls in stories⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀3) tag a friend in comments, or tell me if you do or do not pay for the wifi……...
There are people cheering you on…..and you don’t even realize it.I learned a LOT during the 7 months of training for this race. I learned that I should stretch and warm up (thanks pulled muscle for that life lesson), I learned that small progress over time leads to achieving big goals. I learned that sunshine and being outside makes me a happier person. I learned that I’m more of an athlete than I thought I was. But most of all? I learned……there are a whole lot of people in your cheering section and you might not even know they’re sitting there. After I pulled this muscle, I was amazed by the sweet and kind messages while I tried to prepare to run my first 10k with an injury. But NOTHING prepared me for the ovwhelming amount of kindness and support that flooded into my inbox when I crossed the finish line. From the early morning you can do this messages to the ones that came in throughout the race to the inspiring amount of support as I iced my pulled muscle…..it brought me to tears. And the amazing thing? When Jennifer and Lashawn and I found each other at the finish line….they said the same thing. It’s not just me. We all have a cheering section. And wow, do they show up when you may not be expecting them.Got a big goal? Working on something new? Share it in the comments. I’d love to join your support team.#medalmonday #rundisney
