Want to start doing your nails at home? A great at-home manicure kit will change your LIFE and make that mani a million times easier!
If I’m being totally honest, I fell off the manicure wagon when we moved to San Diego. Up in LA, I got one or two manicures a month at a local nail salon…..but when we moved down here? I never found a new one that I loved. Then? A global pandemic hit and, manicures weren’t really an option.
A couple months in, I started following Olive and June on Instagram, but to be honest? I was pretty apprehensive. I’d always been TERRIBLE at painting my own nails. And what was the point if they just looked sloppy at the end?
This is 100% a time that the internet made me do it. The more people I saw raving about Olive and June’s manicure system……the more curious I was. And spoiler? I’m a total convert.
The Manicure System: If you’re just starting out with an at-home manicure kit, I’d suggest a couple things. First? Start with Olive and June’s Manicure System. It comes with 6 shades of polish (you can either do the latest seasonal releases or pick 6 that you love from the entire collection), and all the tools needed to shape, buff, prep and polish your nails so that they look…….like you’ve been to a nail salon.
Got the tools (I’ll cover my favorite ones below)? Now it’s time to learn. Two options: Nail Bootcamp or tutorials at your own pace. Olive and June has both. The Bootcamp? Happens once a month, live on Instagram (it’s free) for a week. Each day will take you through how to do a manicure and troubleshoot in real time. Rather do it at your own pace? You can watch old tutorials on their IGTV account or sign up for a live masterclass for one session.
The Poppy: This tool? THE ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER. This polish bottle handle can be inserted onto any nail polish bottle and is designed to give you more leverage. I’m telling you, it’s the only way I can paint with my left hand and it works like a dream!
Nail Primer: I’ve recently added a few additional steps to my at-home manicure kit and routine, and they’ve helped my nails to last MUCH longer. Olive and June’s nail primer is the final step BEFORE polish, and I’ve noticed it helps add a few more days to each manicure.
Dry Drops: I was on a zoom with friends recently, and was multitasking by painting my nails. The minute I pulled out the new Olive and June Dry Drops? One of them exclaimed, “THOSE ARE THE BEST THING EVER!!!” These unique drops help your polish to dry in about a minute, and have jojoba seed oil to make your nails SHINE.
Cuticle Serum: The final step? And what changed my totally messed cuticles? Olive and June’s cuticle serum. I apply a couple times a week and it’s brought my cuticles back to healthy.
If you try this at-home manicure kit, let me know what you think!
