Let’s be honest, birthday parties can be a little……stressful.  We just moved to San Diego this summer, so when Lydia said she wanted to have a birthday party this year, I was a little concerned.  We had a birthday party when she turned one, and most years after that….we’ve done a Disneyland Birthday as a family instead of a party.  I didn’t really know any locations, or any fun party options.  Her birthday is in December, so we needed to do something indoors.  We wanted to include her whole kindergarten class (yes, I might be nuts)…..but it seemed like it would be a lot to have 26 students and their parents at our house (plus, who wants to clean up after THAT).

We did some research, I also asked YOU guys over on Instagram stories…..and the same idea came up over and over again.  A Michaels Birthday Party.  Yes, in case you didn’t know….the craft store has birthday parties.  Most locations have a party room, and they’re set up to do great kids’ parties.

Michaels Birthday Party: The Breakdown

So how did it go? Spoiler……we loved it.  Who doesn’t love not having to clean up after a party? We set up the party to run from 11 am to 1 pm.  We arrived at Michaels around 10:15 am and we got to go in and set up.  While the room is set up for crafts, it’s not a fancy party room (it’s more of a classroom).  So we brought a tablecloth to match our craft theme, a banner and plates and party favors.  We had plenty of time to set everything up before guests arrived at 11 am.

The Pricing? A Michaels Birthday Party costs $120 for up to 8 guests ($10 for each additional guest).  You can pay an additional $25 for a face painter and face painting station.

The Activities? There are ten special party themes and crafts that you can choose from for your party.  The crafts are lead by a Michaels team member during the party.  Our choice? We did the Under the Sea theme party for ages 4-6.  The kids created a flag, a pirate hat or mermaid crown, an eye patch or bracelet, and a little goodie bag!  They were busy with the crafts for most of the two hour block

Additional Suggestions? We ordered pizza to be delivered directly to our Michaels store, which worked out perfectly.  It arrived at 11:45 am, and we stopped to eat in between crafts.  We brought cupcakes with us, and had those at about 12:40 towards the end of the party window.  We did bring separate party favors (we got this adorable mermaid slime from an etsy shop and it was a big hit)!

This mermaid slime is the cutest party favor idea!

All in all, our Michaels Birthday Party was great.  The party ended at 1 pm and we were on the way home by 1:15 pm.  Clean up wasn’t our responsibility.  The kids had a great time, and it was easy to set up.  Plus, it was a GREAT price for a party of that size. We’d definitely do one again!
