Real talk. WHO IN THE WORLD HAS TIME TO CLEAN THE HOUSE? Between working full time, taking Lydia to after school activities, carving out time together as a family, and you know…..trying to get some sleep…..I feel like cleaning the house is constantly on my to do list and constantly feels overwhelming. To be transparent, we have used housekeepers regularly…..but recently we decided to try to keep up with a cleaning schedule ourselves. With a little organization (and some super effective products), it's actually been a LOT easier than I expected!
A Daily Cleaning Schedule that Will Help You Get Your House in Order and Not Lose Your Mind
When we started this “clean the house ourselves” experiment, I decided that preparation and organization was half the problem. We needed the right supplies, and we needed a schedule we could actually stick to. As much as I'd like to pretend I'll spend a few hours each weekend deep cleaning the whole house, that just isn't realistic. But do you know what I realized? If I could devote about twenty to thirty minutes each weekday to a few tasks on a cleaning schedule? Then the whole house WOULD be clean by Friday night and we'd actually be able to enjoy the weekend.
Since we don't have all the time in the world, I knew it was important to arm ourselves with the best cleaning supplies. You know, the ones that would get the job done quickly. I spent a couple hours at our local Walmart and headed to the cleaning supply aisle to get spring cleaning ready. From Clorox Disinfecting Wipes (we use these EVERYWHERE) to Clorox Clean Up Original Spray to Pine Sole and Glad Tall Kitchen Trash Bags……I armed us for cleaning success. Having those supplies on hand really made the first week easy and not stressful!
The verdict for us? Breaking down our cleaning schedule into small daily chunks really works. I feel successful, the house ACTUALLY gets clean, and we aren't spending HOURS at a time cleaning the house as a whole. From designating a certain day for laundry (and yes, I look at washing and folding and putting away clothes all as separate tasks) to picking a floor mopping day utilizing our favorite Pine-Sol, we made sure that certain tasks were grouped together and that they all got done. And the best part? I didn't spend Friday night dreading the hours of cleaning we had to do the next morning. We scheduled weekends OFF of cleaning! Full disclosure, we do sometimes adjust the days in our cleaning schedule. If I have “Back to School Night” or a work event, then I do that 20 minute time block on a Saturday usually. But with a printed out cleaning schedule, it's pretty easy to adjust!
