This advent for kids outline is written in partnership with and sponsored by Big Lots.
Believe it or not, Christmas is around the corner. To help our family countdown to the big day, we're sharing some of our favorite activities around advent for kids.
Anyone else have a kiddo who asks each and every morning if it's Christmas Eve? The minute Halloween ended, Lydia went into full blown Countdown to Christmas mode. Now that we're getting closer to Christmas, we decided to plan out a few fun family advent activities to celebrate the season together. These seem like a great way to help your children funnel their “it's almost Santa time” energy……and to enjoy the holidays together for longer than just a day or two.
Advent for Kids: 7 Activities to Countdown to Christmas
Last weekend, we made a run to our local Big Lots and picked up a TON of fun holiday decorations. For the first time since Lydia was born, we won't be traveling for Christmas. I'm so so so excited to be able to spend the holidays at home, and to (for the first time) create a fun holiday space in our own house. I may have gone a little overboard, but I got a TON of great holiday items for a STEAL. From outdoor decor, to items to decorate our Christmas Fireplace, to the cutest ornaments for decorating a Kids Christmas Tree for Lydia……we are Christmas ready! And besides decorations, I picked up some great items for entertaining and for implementing our Advent for Kids activities.
Our plans this Christmas to countdown to December 25th?
Build Your Own Advent Wreath: Advent wreaths are fun tradition and super easy to build. We picked up a wreath at Big Lots and 4 simple candles, one to light each week of advent.
Make One Link a Day: Use that leftover wrapping paper to make a Countdown to Christmas paper chain. Add a new link each day, and it will be ready to hang by Christmas.
Christmas Acts of Kindness:Remember our an act of kindness campaign? Try one out for Christmas. We've decided to brainstorm and implement one act of kindness a week over the holidays.
Build a Christmas Tablescape: Want to prepare for holiday drop in visitors? Have your kids help you set a lovely Christmas Tablescape……and you'll be prepared for any surprises!
Christmas Storytime: There's something special about Christmas Books . RIGHT? This year? I picked up four new ones, and we'll be reading a brand spanking new Christmas story each Sunday leading up to Christmas (I'm even wrapping them up like presents for Lydia to open each week).
Build Your Own Nativity Scene: Build your own family nativity scene and let your kids pick the materials (I'm a little afraid that Lydia is going to pick her princess toys – ha!).
Make a New Type of Christmas Cookie Each Week: Who doesn't love a great Christmas Cookie? This year we're trying a new recipe each week leading up to the holiday.
Do you do advent for kids activities in your family? What is your favorite way to countdown to Christmas in your household?
