Wondering what to do with your kiddos all summer long? These summer activities for kids are fun, easy, and won't break the bank!
Thank you to Crocs for collaborating on this post.
Summer vacations are on the horizon. And as a teacher, I'm counting the days. But I have a feeling my students' parents? Probably a little bit of the opposite. So, today I'm teaming up with Crocs to talk about a few simple ways to “Find Your Fun” as a family. We're sharing 10 summer activities for kids (and parents).
10 Summer Activities for Kids
Water, water, water: Is there a better way to beat the heat? Water play is the best. From a water table for babies to a trip to the community pool for older kids….somehow water play keeps kids happy and engaged for hours on end.
Library Club: Most local libraries have a summer reading club. Kids set a goal for an amount of books to read (on their own or with parents depending on age). They track their reading, and can win prizes. Check your neighborhood library for free programs!Seasonal Produce Taste Testing: Have a picky eater on your hands? Yup, us too. Visit your local farm stand or farmer's market each week and select a few new types of produce to try. You may find some new favorites!
School Friends BBQ: Most kids miss their friends over the summer. In mid-July, have a school friends BBQ. Host a few of your child's friends from their class, and give them a chance to catch up.
Backyard Camping: Summer is for sleeping under the stars. Set up a tent (or just a sleeping bag if you're brave)…..and spend the evening watching shooting stars until you fall asleep.
Summer Service Project: Many families below the poverty line go hungry over the summer. Why? Because schools are not open to provide breakfast and lunches. Team up with a local food bank or charity to adopt a family for the summer. Bring them weekly grocery baskets or a home cooked meal.
Letters to the Teacher: Believe it or not, teachers do miss their students during summer vacation. Write a letter to your child's former teacher over the summer. Send it to the school, when they come back to set up their classroom….it will be a pleasant surprise.
Make Popsicles: There's nothing as fun as making your own summer treats. Freeze lemonade and fruit……and let your kids eat the whole batch!Explore New Parks: Venture outside of your own neighborhood. Drive a little further, and try a new park or playground!Check Out Local Concerts: Most towns have outdoor concert series in the summer, find yours. Let your kids dance outside, while you relax and have a picnic dinner.
