If you follow me on social media, then you know that I just finished a round of the 21 Day Fix. I got a ton of questions about how it was going, and people wanting to know more about the program…..so now that I’ve completed 21 days, I wanted to share my thoughts and experiences!
When my friend Lindsay reached out and asked if I was interested in trying the 21 Day fix…..I’ll admit I was pretty apprehensive. Was this some type of fast? How extreme was it? I actually have a few friends who have tried the program and loved it. So, I said yes. And then told her that I couldn’t start until summer vacation began. I figured, if it was an epic crisis…..summer vacation was the time to try it. Lindsay sent over my whole 21 Day fix kit including a nutritional plan, these colored boxes, and workout DVDs…..and I stuck it under my desk for about 3 weeks. Three days before school ended, I begrudgingly pulled the box out. I just knew this was going to be torture.
Much to my surprise, it wasn’t torture at ALL!
The 21 Day Fix has both an exercise and a nutrition plan. These colored boxes? They’re coded for different food categories. You get a certain amount of each box based on your starting weight. Yes, you can eat carbs. Yes, I drank coffee (with skim milk and stevia). Yes, I even had wine. (All of these were things I thought would be forbidden). All of it was within moderation, and could be planned for to stay within my box allotment for the day or week. And, there was TONS of food. Way more than I thought. I was never starving. I did learn a lot about my own eating habits. I don’t eat enough veggies, and my breakfast was leaving me starving a couple hours later. One of my major shifts? I started making a smoothie each morning. At Lindsay’s suggestion, I used Shakeology as a base and added fruit each day…..along with peanut butter for extra protein. I can’t believe how much better I felt each day! Is Shakeology a 21 Day Fix requirement? No. Is it awesome, and helpful to use for one of your meals? YES!
Now, the exercise videos. My other biggest takeaway from round one of the 21 Day Fix? Doing the same thing all the time? Not very effective. Before I started Round One, I had already lost all the baby weight. But, I felt untoned and sluggish. I was running with Lydia five days a week. And seeing little to no change. It was frustrating. So, Lindsay created a customized schedule for me that allowed me to continue running while adding in the rest of the 21 Day Fix workouts. I loved the variety! All these videos? Only thirty minutes. I got to do Pilates, Plyometrics, Yoga, Upper and Lower Fixes and Ab workouts. And THEY WORKED. I even did them with Lydia. She loved it!
So, the verdict? The 21 Day Fix is amazing. I lost 2.5 pounds……..but also lost 1.5 inches off my hips. That’s a dress size. I gained a ton of muscle, and feel way more toned. And here’s the crazy part……I’m doing it AGAIN. Yup, not only am I doing a second round of the 21 Day Fix……but I just bought the next step up…..the 21 Day Fix Extreme.
