Well, we officially took our winter jackets out of storage. Yes, I know….those of you that live in the rest of the country are probably rolling your eyes…..it's below 70 degrees, and Southern California residents are bundling up like we might freeze.
Honestly, I love this time of year. The warm drinks, lazy evenings by the fire? It's my favorite. Today, I'm sharing 15 must do winter family activities (and teaming up with some of my favorite mamas to share adorable winter mommy and me outfits).
15 Must Do Winter Family Activities:
- Hot Chocolate Buffet: Want to make a night in a little more special? Make traditional hot chocolate, and let each family member add their own special spices or toppings. (My personal favorite? Cinnamon Hot Chocolate).
- Do You Want To Build a Snowman: Yes, even LA kids can make snowman…..out of cotton balls! Use cotton balls glued onto tagboard to create your very own snowmen!
- Gingerbread House Building: Invite your favorite play date partners over to decorate gingerbread houses (this premade kit makes prep SUPER easy)!
- Decorate a Tree for Others: Visit your local senior center, and decorate their lobby with handmade ornaments.
- Zoo Lights: Every major zoo has a Zoo Lights program. There's nothing like visiting the zoo at night, it's every toddler's dream…..add in Christmas lights? And it's the BEST!
- Adopt a Family: Adopt a family through your local children's hospital and fulfill their Christmas wishlist.
- Christmas Tree Farm: It isn't a visit to a local tree farm practically a holiday requirement?
- Cookie Baking: Pull out your favorite family recipes, and bake more holiday cookies than you can eat….drop extras off at your local fire or police station.
- S'mores: Bring the campfire inside. Build a fire in your fireplace, and make as many s'mores as you can eat.
- Winter Movie Marathon: From It's a Wonderful Life to Charlie Brown Christmas to Frosty the Snowman……screen a few of the classics as a family.
- Holiday Light Tour: Get in the car, and drive. Check out all the holiday decorations and let each family member pick out their favorite house!
- Visit the Snow: Whether outside your door, or a few hours away…..take your kiddos to see real snow on the ground!
- Blanket Giving: Purchase a few heavy blankets, and bring them to local homeless families.
- Acts of Kindness Advent: Instead of a traditional advent calendar, plan to do one act of kindness as a family for every day leading up to Christmas (want ideas? check out our serving family list)
- Toy Drive: Collect unwanted, gently used toys to donate to a local foster care home.

Cute pictures! I wish it snowed where I live. This post makes me wish I was a kid again.
