Ok ladies, let’s check in. How are you? No really. How are you? We started the 30-day self-care challenge a couple weeks ago. My goal? To slowly add new, healthy behaviors into my days. Progress over perfection. So, did I drink ALLLLL my water every day? Nope. Some days I only drank half. But I felt better each and every day. Why you ask? I implemented new, healthy behaviors.
So what’s next? Now that I’m starting to get used to these new habits…..my goal is to add two more specific self-care actions into my days.
If you’re a member of Blue Shield of California, there’s a really cool digital program called Wellvolution that you can access at no extra cost. And, it’s really helped me take steps to prioritize my mental and physical health with our self-care challenge!
Self Care Challenge: What's Next
Less Processed Food: Let’s be honest, we’re all pretty sick of cooking right now. But, as a result, I feel like I’ve been eating too much processed food (which tends to have a lot of sodium). So, one of my goals? Less processed food. Enter: PlateJoy. PlateJoy is one of the awesome app programs available through Wellvolution. I chose it to help me find new recipes that are both delicious and family-friendly and it has been amazing. The program uses 50 different data points to create a meal plan that is tailored to you – and your family’s – tastes, dietary preferences, and health goals. PlateJoy even has in-app grocery lists that remember what’s in your pantry which can help to reduce food waste and save you money! I love that PlateJoy has an easy to use app that encourages healthy decisions versus just focusing on weight loss. It’s really helped me to plan meals that have a better nutritional balance (we were a little lacking the fruits and veggies area) and they have a place where I can enter my activity if I want to keep track (all the gardening I’m doing counts too, by the way!) While PlateJoy is available to the public, Blue Shield of California members can access this program at no added cost!
Virtual Race: Moving each day was a part of my initial goal during our self-care challenge and now? I’m working on a virtual race. My goal? To run a marathon. Just not all at once. I’m going to track the distance that I run or walk each day and add it up until I finish! And the PlateJoy app comes in handy here too, since I can keep track of my total distance all in one place!
