Are you counting the days until Wreck it Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet releases? The Disney Princesses scene is one of the most highly anticipated Disney scenes in YEARS…..and we got the back story……..
The insanity started at D23 in 2017. The big reveal? The PRINCESSES are back….and they're all TOGETHER! You've seen it, right? Vanellope finds herself in a room surrounded by our favorite Disney Princesses…..and somehow convinces them that her comfy hoodie is the way to dress. Every single princess sports her own comfy attire, and princess fans everywhere? We need the outfits for ourselves.
At the Ralph Breaks the Internet early press day…..we got to sit down with screenwriter Pamela Ribon, producer Clark Spencer, and Art Director Ami Thompson to hear a bit about the creation of the scene.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: The Princesses
Can you imagine the moment when this idea was brought to the table? Let's get ALLLLLL the Disney Princesses in a room. And let's put them in casual clothes. Would it fly? Would it get shot down? Would fans love it? Or totally reject it?
“We knew we’d have to find a balance between making fun of ourselves and celebrating these iconic characters.” –producer Clark Spencer
From the clothing design obsession, to the participation of so many actresses……I think it's obvious that we ALL LOVE the idea of our favorite princesses getting together with Vanellope.
“Vanellope is technically a princess, but hasn’t really been included among Disney royalty,” says Ribon. “Who wouldn’t want the Hoodie Princess in there? That’s my Princess! I loved the idea of getting her into that club.”
We all forget that……Vanellope is a princess too, right? And she definitely has the most comfortable princess outfit!
Ami Thompson, art director—characters, was tasked with redressing the classic cast. “I still can’t believe that I got to design casual clothing for the Disney Princesses,” says Thompson. “We wanted to incorporate modern style that reflects their individual stories—Cinderalla’s t-shirt has a pumpkin carriage with ‘G2G’ for ‘got to go.’ Snow White’s jeans have an apple print. Merida’s tank top has a bear on it and reads ‘Mum.’ Everything is edgy, surprising—we designed band-style shirts, flannels and chopper-style tees.”
And the most amazing part? The involvement of the original Princess actresses.
“It was intriguing how much the characters are a reflection of those actresses. These women have a deep connection to their characters, and to witness their very personal presentations was really moving.” – Director Rich Moore
If you can't wait to see the Princesses, Vanellope, Ralph and all their friends……the wait is almost over.
RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET arrives in theatres everywhere on November 21st!
