As we approach the release of Pixar Luca, let's dive into the location of the film……and regardless of where you are watching it, what to buy to celebrate all things Luca and Italy.
If you've watched the latest Pixar Luca Trailer, then you know a bit about the film already. This adorable film follows two friends (Luca and Alberto) two sea monsters who come of age and explore the complexity of life above and below the surface of the ocean. Director Enrico Casarosa (who also created La Luna), is from Genoa, and has put his own unique perspective into this passion project around his home country…..but the big question……
Where Does Pixar Luca Take Place?
Pixar Luca is located in the town of Portorosso, Italy. There is a REAL city in Italy called Porto Rosso (which translated literally means….red port). During an early press day for Pixar Luca, I loved hearing Enrico Casarosa's thoughts about drawing inspiration for the location of the film.
“We wanted to make our own town sum up the Cinque Terre. We mix and match a little bit to make something that feels of the place but isn't one specific town. We wanted to have the essence of it all, of the place while creating our own town with its own geography. But we took a ton of fun design cues from a lot of different towns. So, that is the reason that we ended up with-with that name.“
If you have been to Italy's iconic seaside towns, you will gasp with delight when Pixar Luca brings you above the surface. That Italian, warm summer by the sea feeling? Pixar Luca captures it perfectly.
