Here we go……the Lipgloss and Crayons Pen Pal Club is open for sign ups!
I'm so excited, the Lipgloss and Crayons Pen Pal Club is up and running! After chatting about this on stories, and how a lot of kids will be missing social interaction of traditional school during distance learning and learning at home…….I knew that this would be a fun thing for our kids to do and a great way to connect with new friends. Did you have a pen pal as a kid? I did and it was so much fun!
My plan? To let Lydia work on letters and cards for her pen pal during quiet time on her own, then we'll mail them together. Do the letters need to be perfect? Not at all, she'll be writing to another kid her age. As long as it's legible, it's fine to send as is. There's no need to make this a “must be perfect assignment”. It's fun, and supposed to be something they enjoy!
The Details:
So what are your kids (and let's be honest you) committing to? You can send as much mail as you like. But at minimum? Please plan on sending one piece of mail a week to your pen pal. It can be a postcard (I love this inexpensive set of postcards to decorate and send out), a letter, a drawing with a note attached. But we're doing SNAIL MAIL (not emails). You can send small gifts (especially something fun from your hometown or region) but nothing of super high value. This is more just for fun, not meant to be a stress or expense! The goal is for kids to connect with a friend of the same age in a different part of the country!
