Red is the hardest color to maintain in your hair. Anyone who has ever colored their hair red, knows that your shower looks like a murder scene the first few times you shampoo. After having this vibrant hair color for a decent length of time…..I’ve finally found a few tricks and products that help my red hair to stick around!
Always wash and rinse your hair in COLD water, hot water opens the hair shaft and you’ll get more color runoff
Wash 2 -3 times a week maximum, dry shampoo is your friend
Don’t heat style more than necessary
I always wait two or three days after a trip to the salon to wash my hair. Always. Let the color sit….it will set better. After washing with my chosen shampoo, I follow with Redken Shot Phase Color Extend Deep Treatment as my conditioner. It seals the hair cuticle and helps extend the life of your color. After leaving it on wet hair for about 5 minutes, I spray my hair about ten times with Redken Phix Phase. This seals the color back in. I still have color run off, but it’s MUCH less!
I always, always, always wash my hair with Davines Alchemic Copper Shampoo. I’ve found that it adds a pop back to my color and maintains the vibrancy. I alternate between the Davines Alchemic Copper Conditioner and Bumble and Bumble Super Rich Conditioner. The Copper Conditioner does a great job of adding pigment back into your color….but isn’t the most moisturizing. Dry, colored hair fades more quickly…..so using a stronger conditioner every other time has really helped the health of my hair and the life of my color.
Use heat on your hair as little as possible. I allow my hair to partially air dry, and then use a Heat Protectant before blow drying or styling.
What are your fav styling products????
