If you follow me on Instagram Stories, then you know I've been talking a lot about How to Get Rid of Headaches. I'm not sure if it's getting older, or mom life, or work life, or all of the above……while I've always struggled with getting headaches, I feel like lately they've been much more frequent. When I shared THIS article on Instagram, you guys loved the tips and tricks for how to get rid of headaches. I wanted to share what has worked for me, and a few new things I'm trying.
Spoiler, one of the biggest issues I've had? I'm VERY sensitive to scents and smells. Heavy perfumes, or products with a ton of chemicals tend to cause headaches for me. So finding products I like to use in our home has been a bit of a challenge. I'm excited to share, I've finally found an air freshener I love…..that doesn't have any of those overpowering scents or aerosols that I'm trying to avoid.
How to Get Rid of Headaches
Stay Hydrated: I know, I know. It's very important to drink enough water and I'm terrible at this. But I'm making an effort, and it IS making a difference. I bought a cute new water bottle, and I'm adding lemon to my water so that it tastes better.
Caffeine Intake: I really like coffee. And soda. But the truth is, I probably drink WAY too much. How do I know? Because if I don't drink my usual amount…..I get a terrible headache. I'm slowly trying to lessen my caffeine intake. Nothing over the top, but I'm replacing my afternoon coffee with decaf. My long term goal? Two caffeinated drinks a day. That's doable right?
Sleep: I wish I could blame Lydia for this one, but she's a pretty consistent sleeper at this point. Honestly? It's just a bad habit at this point. I stay up later than I should watching random tv shows and reading. For the last week, I've implemented a bedtime for myself. No more TV and no more reading. And that extra 30 minutes or so of sleep? Does seem to be helping!
Scents: I've always been sensitive to scents. Strong smells and heavy chemicals give me headaches. But here's the problem. So do the smells of smoke or leftover food / cooking smells. Now we have an open floor plan……so those cooking smells don't just stay in the kitchen, they take over our family room and playroom area. And drive me CRAZY! Enter my new find, Febreze ONE. Febreze ONE fabric and air mist is a groundbreaking product that contains no aerosols, no dyes and no heavy perfumes. It has the odor elimination power that totally gets rid of those cooking smells that bother me, without the harsh ingredients that I don't want around me (or my daughter). Bonus? The Bamboo scent (my favorite) also has been shown to have calming properties! I love that it leaves the air in our home refreshed and clean, without causing headaches that I usually get from those heavy perfumes or other overpowering aerosol products. If you're sensitive to smells, this is for YOU!
Stress: Headaches cause stress and stress causes headaches. The best thing to do? Put regular practices in place that help combat stress. For me? It's exercise. I'm making a huge effort to work out 4-5 days a week. And the difference? HUGE. That same calm I get from the Bamboo Febreze ONE? I get from my exercise routine (gotta love that ONE state of mind they encourage)!
