We survived the heat wave, and I survived getting my hair soaking wet….family activities for hot days.
Thank you to Babyganics for partnering with us on this post.
Ok, try not to judge me here. You guys know I'm all about being in the moment with your kids as much as possible, that's part of the reason I started this whole #justwearthesuit movement. But if I'm being honest, I wasn't actually as carefree as it may have come across. Call it laziness, call it vanity, call it insecurity…..but I still get myself dolled up to go to the pool or the beach. Somehow, the hair and makeup being done (even if they're subtle) feel like a shield. You'd NEVER see me roll up to the pool with no makeup and a messy ponytail. You'd ALSO never see me dunk my head underwater (or rarely see it).
So here's my question……is that REALLY the point? To still be in my head enough that I'm telling Lydia not to splash my hair?
Well, last week we had an EPIC heat wave. Probably the WORST I've seen in LA in years. 116 degrees. And all Lydia wanted to do? Was play in the sprinklers. They do it at school on water play days. I avoided it. I tried to tell her SHE could do it on her own. I even put the suit on (since we've already gotten over THAT hurdle), and put a cute scarf in my hair. I figured I'd sort of stick a toe in and “play” with her.
Well the ridiculous heat had other ideas. Another one of those moments. About thirty seconds in, I realized what a joke that was. JUST GET YOUR HAIR WET. Who cares? I mean who really cares? It was Lydia, me, the bugs that were flying everywhere trying to escape the heat, and the epic UV rays. NO ONE CARED ABOUT MY HAIR. And did it even matter if they did?
Can you guess what happened? Yup, we had the best time. And, my hair did dry. And the world didn't stop turning.
Now on a practical note……thank goodness we were prepared….because our outdoor adventure involved bugs and the threat of a sunburn. A few days before the heat wave hit, we received some great beat the heat products from Babyganics.
We've been Babyganics customers since Lydia was born, I love that their products are comfortable for all of us to use. The Babyganics SPF 50+ sunscreen lotion is a staple in our cabinet, and something we all use (it applies REALLY easily which I love). Their SPF 50+ sunscreen stick was a new product for us, and I'm OBSESSED. It's perfect for throwing in your purse, and can be easily applied in unexpected sunny moments. And the final product in our toolbelt for that ridiculous heat wave? Babyganics natural insect repellent. It's normally not something we need here in the LA Suburbs, but man did we need it while all these bugs were trying to escape their normal habitats. I love that it's DEET free, and it totally worked. It will be traveling with us on our cruise to the Bahamas in a few weeks, I've heard it's a MUST pack.
I struggle with this even though I have fun with her at the beach or pool. I try to wear a hat or my hair in a high bun to not wet it… i will try harder to dunk my head in ? i feel like you have a point here ???
