Excited about the Dumbo live action action release that is about to soar into theaters? This inside scoop from the Dumbo 2019 Cast will remind you that the story of Dumbo has universal appeal, and that it’s more needed than ever.
Unique qualities are what make us beautiful. When I walked into the press junket that included the crew and Dumbo 2019 cast…..I was in tears before any of them spoke a word. I’d screened the movie the night before, and I was heading to the world premiere the next day. And honestly? I was honored. I knew the film was something special, and I knew it contained messages that I believe with every ounce of my being our children need to hear. At the most basic level, Dumbo is the story of a child who looks……odd. A being with an “ugly” appearance. And this child? With the support of friends and community, uses his unique qualities to SOAR. The thing that people judged about him? Becomes the thing that they celebrate and admire most.
Now you guys know I love a good celebration of bravery. You guys know I think these messages are important (for us grown ups too). But the thing that I loved the most about hearing from the Dumbo 2019 Cast? They believe this too.
Dumbo Press Junket: 4 Statements About Unique Beauty
“I like the idea of that sort of concept when you’re a child of running away to the circus. It’s just a phrase that sort of stuck with a lot of people. I think that’s the idea of not the circus per se. But the idea of being with a bunch of other weird people from around the world that can’t get regular jobs. That kind of a person.” – Tim Burton
“The idea of a flying elephant and the character that doesn’t quite fit into the world and how somebody with a disadvantage makes it an advantage. So it just felt very close to the way I felt about things. It was just a very pure simple image. Like all the old Disney fables had that kind of simple symbolism for real emotions.” Tim Burton
“I think you don’t have to be an artist to feel like an outsider. I think everybody has felt at some point kind of a bit strange or different. And yeah. It’s a big thing. It’s just such a wonderful movie because it has that message of no, it’s okay to be strange or different. It’s actually great. It makes you special. And we just have to embrace our uniqueness.” -Eva Green
“…importance of not just accepting the inherent difference that people have from each other in relation to each other but celebrating it. I think just as Tim was saying, there are simple messages that are very complex it seems to live in as we go through our lives. And those messages are messages of kindness and inclusion and all those kind of things.” -Colin Farell
