Ally Maki (the voice of the adorable Giggles McDimples in Toy Story 4) shares what her character meant to her, how important representation was in the film and beyond.
Have you seen it yet? Toy Story 4 is here, and the rave reviews are IN. From the amazing animation to the conclusion of Woody's story…..the film is getting (pun intended) lots of buzz. One of the most exciting parts of Toy Story 4? The new characters. My personal favorite from the film? Polly Pocket inspired Giggle McDimples played by the amazing Ally Maki. Giggle McDimples is a close friend to Bo Peep, and these two powerhouse women are an integral part of the Toy Story 4 adventure (trust, they're going to be your newest girl power heroes).
The minute I met Ally Maki last week, it was obvious WHY she was perfect for the role. Her warm, infectious giggle fills a room and her friendly personality made me want to join Giggle and Bo on a girl power adventure immediately.
“Through Giggles I have learned to be more confident. and I’ve learned to embrace who I am and what I am…….it matters a lot for the next generation to see these type of women.”
Ally shared that she felt her character was an important addition to the film for multiple reasons. She shared that she loved the Toy Story films growing up, and what an honor it was be the first Asian American character in the films. In fact, Ally is the founder of the Asian American Girls Club (an apparel company designed to empower and unite Asian American woman in community). She also shared the importance of such a tiny character being so empowered (hello, kids are tiny characters TOO).
At the end of the interview, everyone of us had fallen in love with Ally (and her character). She's an amazing role model, and I'm so proud that Lydia loved Giggle McDimples as much as I did!
