Working on taking better care of yourself? This 30-day self-care challenge is something you can start TODAY to make small but significant changes!
This post is sponsored by Blue Shield of California and its Wellvolution program. All opinions and experiences written are my own. I am not a medical professional and am not qualified to give medical advice. Please speak with your doctor about your individual medical situation.
Inevitably, my evenings look the same (whatever state we are in…staying at home or not). As I check my to do list to be sure I completed all my tasks…most things are finished. The chores, the errands, the work projects. And the thing that I often don’t even PUT on the list? Let alone check off? Anything related to self-care. That’s why I’m excited to share that I’ve been inspired by Blue Shield of California and their award-winning new Wellvolution program to prioritize my own self-care; I’m even starting a 30-day self-care challenge!
Initially launched in June of 2019, Blue Shield of California’s Wellvolution program is actually the largest digital network of on-demand health and wellness apps and online coaches – personalized to fit your individual needs …and it inspired me to make my own mental and physical health a priority!
30 Day Self Care Challenge
Ok guys, there’s no time like the present. If I’m being honest (yes, I may sound like a bit of a squeaky wheel)….self-care is a struggle for me. It has nothing to do my family or my schedule, it has to do with me deciding to spend just a little time each day on my own mental health and taking care of myself. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about simple changes I can make that I know will have a big impact and how long it takes to rewire our thought processes or to create new habits. Statistics say that even with support, it takes 30 days to start a new habit and ingrain new behaviors into our daily lives. So, here’s the deal. I’m making the time. I’m making the time to commit to three simple new behaviors each and every day. And I’m inviting you to do this with me. Why? Peer pressure, my friends. Peer pressure in the most positive way. Let’s support each other as we take care of ourselves.
So, what am I committing to?
Quiet Time: Being still. Meditating. Prayer time. It looks different for all of us, but this one? It’s a struggle for me. My mind goes nonstop. I reach for my phone. I listen for the email ping. So, I’m committing to ten minutes of quiet time each day. I’m going to try meditation (we’ll see how it goes, ha!).
Movement: This is not new around here. Movement and exercising my body in a way that brings me joy have been a huge part of my body positivity journey. Do I exercise for weight loss? No. Do I move my body for health? Both physical and mental? Absolutely. So, I’m committing to moving my body every day and here are some examples of what I plan to do:
- Running
- A walk in the park
- A dance party with my daughter
- Virtual spinning
- An attempt at yoga
Anything goes! But I will take time every day to remind myself of how grateful I am that my body is strong, and my body is healthy.
Staying Hydrated: I’ve been talking about this one a lot. I’m TERRIBLE at drinking water each day. Coffee? I’m great at drinking that. So, I’m going to start tracking my water intake. My goal is 60 ounces a day.
So, where do you come in? I made THIS Instagram story slide (I posted it over on stories too). You can join in. Save it to your phone, and then upload each day to share what you completed (and guys, it’s ok if every day isn’t perfect…this is about making slow and steady change….not about perfection).
Now, looking for higher level support? If you’re a Blue Shield of California member…this is for YOU! And bonus? This is available at no added cost! Wellvolution gives members individualized access to programs and tools that support individual health needs. How does it work? After creating an online account, members answer ten questions about THEIR health and lifestyle goals. Then, they are matched with programs that fit those goals. Members get weekly action plans, and access to
recommended apps or even in person services. There are three main types of programs: lifestyle programs (for goals like stress management, eating better, sleeping better or quitting smoking), disease prevention programs and condition reversal programs for treating existing chronic conditions. And yet again, DID I MENTION IT’S AVAILABLE AT NO ADDED COST FOR MEMBERS?!?
