I'm up later than usual….and writing this post before I head to bed. As I sit on the couch, I can't help but reflect upon our busy weekend. Somehow weekends are always a stark contrast to my weekdays. Beyond the obvious fact that I'm off of work, it often strikes me how different my daughter's life is than my students lives.
Our weekend consisted of cookie baking, playdates, a Christmas concert, delicious meals, and long naps. We turned up the heat when it got cold, took bubble baths when we got dirty, and ate snacks whenever we felt like it. Last week I attended a presentation about the population of my school district, and technique for teaching children in urban schools. I learned that district-wide, 5 in 30 children live in poverty. At my school? It's more like 29 out of 30.
So, you've probably noticed a bit of a shift around here. I've been focusing on working with brands that give back. Why? Because I get it. I'm a busy mom too. As much as I'd love for all of us to volunteer in our communities every weekend…..we don't always have the time. What we do have? Our dollars. Many of us reflect our values with our spending habits. And let me be clear, this is not me saying that you ONLY have to buy certain brands. It IS me saying, if given the option…..why not? Because a lot of these companies? I've seen the direct impact they have on students at my very own school. From boots to shoes to clothes to backpacks to meals……I have seen real live children receive help from amazing companies. Which means they've received help from regular moms like you and me who bought those products.
So my goal for next year is to share MORE of these companies. Do me a favor, if you know of a company that supports an important cause….leave their name in the comments…..I'd LOVE to learn about more of them!Want to see more style tips? Check out our style section!
Now, one more thing. Molly and I are teaming up to do more than host our link up. We are teaming up to share brands that we love……brands that give back. Each week we’ll be collaborating with one of our favorite brands to share the cause they support, and their amazing products.
This week we are teaming up with Roma Boots. Roma Boots was founded in 2010 by Samuel Bistrian. He combined his expertise in the fashion field with his goal of helping children his home country of Romania. For every pair of adorable boots sold, a pair is donated to a child in need in a location with cold and wet climates. Roma Boots also gives the children much needed school supplies and supports local educational programs. Roma Boots have supported children around the globe in the Americas, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa.
Now, on to you guys…..our favorites last week?
