Clothes starting to cost more than you'd like? These 5 simple tips will help you save money on clothes you love (like this off the shoulder dress)!
Thank you to Ebates for collaborating on this post, and for giving me cash back on all my online shopping! It's summer, we just finished a three day weekend, and we're in vacation heaven! These off the shoulder dresses from J.Crew are normally totally out of our price range…..but today I'm talking about a couple of ways we save money on higher end clothing.
So, the reality is……we'd all love to buy higher end clothing. Right? I walk by stores like J.Crew (where our dresses are from) and swoon over the lovely fabrics and pretty designs. But, for most of us……this isn't ALWAYS the smartest option. I wanted to share a couple of things we've been doing to manage our spending and to help us buy SOME of the those pieces we were lusting over.1) Wait for Sales: Certain stores ALWAYS have a sale. In fact, this weekend (4th of July)…..a HUGE sale weekend. So keep your eyes on those pieces you've been lusting after. I can almost guarantee they'll be on sale!2) Pick and Choose: While I'd love to just head to a high end department store and buy everything in sight…..that's not realistic (and it shouldn't be our priority anyways). Especially when it comes to Lydia's clothes or my work clothes, I can't justify buying tons of expensive items. But I can justify buying a few high quality staples each season. I'm slowly building up a classic, reusable wardrobe over time……and adding in trendy pieces here and there.
3) I Only Buy Things I Can Care For At Home: Dry cleaning is REALLY expensive. In my mind, it adds to the cost of the item. So I'd rather pay a little more, for pieces that are hand washable or machine washable.4) If You Don't Absolutely Love It, Don't Buy It: That's it. If you wouldn't wear an item every week. Don't buy it. My rule of thumb? If I can't think of at least 3 places or events I'd wear a dress to? It's staying at the store. If I don't feel GREAT in it, it's staying at the store.5) Ebates: Ok. How in the world was I missing out on Ebates until now? I was talking about this over on Instagram last night…..and apparently everyone else already knew about the amazing-ness that is Ebates. So, I've been missing out on this money saving (technically money EARNING) secret. To be honest, whenever I heard about Ebates or saw an ad on TV…..I was apprehensive. It seem confusing, or too good to be true. So, after my fifth recommendation from a friend AND a long phone call with the Ebates team……I gave it a shot. How does it work? You shop online through Ebates (either by entering a specific store through their website OR they have a browser button for Chrome, Safari and Firefox that you install to your brower which will notify you when on a store site that offers Cash Back and with One Click will activate your Ebates account and Cash Back when you shop). You earn cash back on your purchases. You get a big fat check for a percentage of your purchase. Right now Ebates owes me $20. On stuff I would have ALREADY bought. And yes, it works on sale items. And yes, they are stores I ACTUALLY shop at.
The BEST part? They have these crazy Double Cash Back Days. And right now, some AMAZING stores are having sales AND offering double cash back (like J.Crew, Nordstrom, and Sephora).
So, basically you make money back on things you already buy. Now my only regret is not trying Ebates sooner (attention sister-in-law…..you can say I told you so now….since you told me about Ebates last year)!
