Can real life moms do it all? (plus a Stitch Fix review……and how Stitch Fix helps me do one LESS thing)….
Can we do it all? I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I certainly try. I work full time, make Lydia's meals, work out five days a week, run this blog…..and somehow, feel like a failure when I fall short in one of these areas. Why is this? It seems almost ridiculous to have that many balls in the air at once.
It's the Pinterest myth. The, I Am Woman I Can Do it All myth. I want to be clear, I think we can do it all. But, man…..is it exhausting sometimes. I love that I have the choice to work, run a business, take care of my health, AND be a great mom. I love that our society accepts, even encourages those choices. But, I worry about what we are sharing about our “Pinterest-worthy lives”.
So here it is new mamas. Sometimes, on the weekends….I don't shower OR put makeup on. Sometimes, I choose to make box macaroni and cheese for dinner because I'm tired. Sometimes, I let my daughter watch her favorite TV for thirty minutes after a day of work and daycare because I'm too tired for a craft project. And the thing is? I'm ok with that. I have to be. Because these Pinterest-moments? They're not what motherhood is about. It's about the macaroni and cheese picnics we have outside on our lawn when my daughter asks (and doesn't care whether I've spent an hour making it from scratch). It's about the dance parties before bedtime. It's about the fact that she doesn't care if I put makeup on. Motherhood is about the moments that just happen. Not the manufactured ones.
Now let's talk Stitch Fix. Y'all know how much I love it. Why? Because my casual weekend shopping trips? Tend to be with a very active toddler, and they're not exactly what they used to be. I'd rather spend our time together playing, visiting the zoo, or going on adventures together. So I leave most of my shopping up to my Stitch Fix stylist. Once a month, she sends a box of five items. I try them on, keep what I want and return the rest. The best part? I can send requests, links to Pinterest boards, and give feedback each month so she can see what fits my style. This poncho? SPOT ON! I've worn it way too many times already.
