This last weekend, it reached 94 degrees here in Los Angeles. It was HOT! And I’m not gonna lie, I wasn’t prepared. Somehow, I thought we had another month or so before the heat hit…..and I was wrong! So, in anticipation of a hot summer……we’re talking about sun safety today. As temperatures rise, be sure to be prepared. That uncomfortable heat? Can be dangerous for babies and toddlers! Sun Safety Tips:
- Hydrate: Keep a water bottle with you. In high temperatures, it’s easy become dehydrated. I always realize how thirsty we are when we’re out and about and then can’t find water bottles. Bring an insulated water bottle with you filled with water and ice.
- Avoid Direct Sun: Middle of the day sun is the WORST. Try to avoid sun during peak hours (between 10 am and 3 pm), or to at least stay in the shade.
- Shield: Be sure that you are prepared with a hat, coverup, and sunglasses. I keep an extra of each of these items in our diaper bag during warm weather.
- Apply sunscreen frequently: This is HUGE. We keep sunscreen in our bathrooms and our diaper bags. Our sunscreen of choice? Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen. Blue Lizard sunscreen was originally made in Australia, where standards for sunscreen are some of the highest in the world. Housed in a BPA-free bottle, it offers UVA and UVB protection. Our favorite thing? The bottle changes color when it contact with harmful sun rays. It’s a great reminder to reapply sunscreen. Their Baby sunscreen is perfect for Lydia’s sensitive skin, and I use it as well! Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen every few hours, after swimming, or after excessive sweat.
