This post and giveaway was created in partnership with Buybuy Baby.Well, we survived the first leg of our holiday travel. Flying with a toddler was something I dreaded, Lydia is so active that I thought……it would be a total disaster. I ended up asking a couple of friends for advice…..and everything they suggested was SUPER helpful!
So, flying with a toddler…..simple tips to make it (relatively) easy:
- Timing is key: Lydia goes to bed at 7pm every night. So for us? A red eye probably would be difficult. She's a total morning person. Our flights are all scheduled for the earlier part of the day, when she'll be happiest.
- Amusement: Toddlers have a VERY short attention span. Pack new toys for long flights. Lydia spent a long time playing with Mrs. Potato Head on our first flight this year. Taking pieces off, etc. Things that can manipulate? The best!
- Be prepared: having the right equipment is key for easy travel.
Before our flight, we stocked up on a few essentials at Buybuy Baby that made our time in the sky a million times easier. (be sure to enter their giveaway below)
A Lightweight Stroller: A compact, lightweight stroller is KEY for travel. Those trips through the airport? You may need to move more quickly than your little one can run. Plus, you can gate check a stroller and it will be waiting for you upon landing. We absolutely love the 3D-one from Summer Infant…..it's sturdy, easy to push, and light enough for travel.
Disposable Diaper Sacks: Ever thought about where dirty diapers go on an airplane? Right. In your diaper bag. Disposable diaper sacks are meant to seal easily and to mask diaper smell. Trust me, your seatmates will thank you.
Snack Cups: Bring snacks. Lots of snacks. Hungry kids on a flight? The worst thing ever. We pack a snack for each hour in the air. You may not need them all, but you'll be happy they're available.
Disposable Placemats: Airplanes (and airports) are dirty. Germ city. Instead of constantly wiping down every surface that Lydia may eat off of, we bring disposable placemats. Cover the tray table with one before takeoff, and you're good to go for the flight!
Wipe Box: A wipe box was a new addition to our diaper bag for this flight. Apparently I was missing out! We used to bring a package of wipes. Well, they would dry out and were HEAVY. This wipe box kept wipes wet, and was easier to manage in a small airplane bathroom.
Neck Pillow: For older kids who are used to napping with a pillow…..this adorable neck pillow is perfect for in flight naps.
Own Back Pack: Lydia brought her own adorable back pack filled with her favorite toys, books and extra snacks. She was able to select her own activities in flight, plus it was so cute to see her walking through the airport!
