Exactly one year ago today, my maternity leave started. And one week later, Lydia was born. Can anyone really prepare you for the first year of parenthood? Or do they just give you a knowing eye about eight months in? A glance of solidarity? And a joking….”ready for another one yet?”
During my run yesterday, I thought about countless moments over the last year. I thought about the late nights, the early mornings, the teething, the developmental milestones, the first smile, the first words, the first sleeping through the night……and I thought about my own parents. In the last year, I have come to appreciate them in a whole new way. I am so thankful for all they gave to my sister and I. I am thankful for the sleepless nights, the carpool duty, the parent conferences, the family vacations, the magical christmas mornings, and the feeling of love that we had ALWAYS.
I have come to realize it really does take a village to raise a child. And I sure am thankful for our village.
