Let’s make music. Little did I know, a few years back how significant that phrase would become in my life. That was before I fell in love with a musician. My husband is a professional musician. What does that mean? He works. A lot. Music is his JOB. He actually makes a pretty decent living playing the violin. His day definitely doesn’t end at 5 pm. It means that now we’re having a baby, people are asking if he’s “done with the music thing”. People are asking if I’m going to be “upset when he’s gone for gigs”. People are asking if I’m going to tell him he “can’t do gigs at night”. In fact, I have to be honest…..people are saying an awful lot.
Do I think it’s going to be a bit of a scheduling dance? Yes. Is it going to be more difficult than if we both worked until 5 pm on weekdays only? Absolutely. Is it going to be a challenge when he does gigs out of town for weeks at a time? You bet.
But, I’m grateful. My husband loves his job. He is passionate about it. The fact that our daughter will be exposed to that everyday? A total blessing. I hope that my husband inspires her to chase her dreams, and pursue a career that invigorates her the way music does for him and teaching does for me. Plus, this little girl is already music obsessed……she kicks up a storm whenever my husband performs!
So, is he / are we “done with the music thing”. Absolutely not. Is our life a little nontraditional? Yup. And we’re excited to embrace this adventure along with our loved, anticipated, and musically inclined daughter as soon as she arrives.
Headed by designer Amanda Dimova, VINCA started in Austin around 2006. Initially composed of bold statement pieces made from leather and crystals, the brand has morphed into super sweet, sometimes devilish little acrylic and wood baubles (there is still some leather in there, too!) I’m in love with Amanda’s whimsical designs…..they’re just ADORABLE! VINCA is giving one lucky reader a piece of their choice……
